hi all 2 years after my op just wondering what tabs do ye take now
i take 1 multivit laprozile iron calcium x2 and b12 every 3 months
my doc is wondering should he wean me off laprozile

Is that lansoprazole? I'll be 2 years out in feb. Haven't taken lanzoprazole since 2 weeks post op, this was as recommended by my provider. Had no problems. As for vits I take:

Morning.
pregnancy complete formula,
400g calcium,
sublingual b12 tab.

Evening.
400g calcium,
skin hair and nails suppliment, 5000iu vit D.

It's worth noting that i have never been defiencent in anything, only had a mild insufficiently of vit D which I've corrected.

My provider only recommends lansoprazole for the first 6 months. I guess they're all different!!

Mine is twice a day for 6 months then once a day for 6 months.

I'm six months post bypass and was told to stop the lansoprozole at 3 months out. calcium d3 3 times daily, 2 centrum advanced multi vits a day (my team now recommend 2 and not one a day) and b12 injections every 3 months.

Thanks guys my local go didn't really know so I thought it's best if I look it up ill come off them so I had no bothar myself all along but my bloods came back anemic which is prob linked to my massive hair loss but I'm on stronger iron now thanks ladies

I asked the nurse practitioner at the hospital which is the best multi vitamin to take. She recommended the A to Z from Wilkinsons, the nursing staff had looked at the daily requirements that each tablet on the market provides and the Wilkinson's tablets came top so I've been taking one a day since I stopped the soft and chewy vitamins. My doctor prescribes lansoprozole for three months post op and then I'll go back on the Omeprazole that I was taking before the op. I also have the B12 injections every three months - I had no idea that the B12 injections sting as much as they do. The nurse warned me that it would hurt and I laughed saying that after three C Sections and a gastric bypass nothing would be a problem. I then shouted out loud like a little girl, not at all embarrassing :)

It's not just the content in terms of RDA that you need to look at but the type of vitamins that they are using, primarily if the source is synthetic or not, as it affects the way your body will be able to utilise the content of the tablet. For example vitamin d is available as d2 & d3, d2 is often synthetic & is very poorly absorbed. It's commonly used though because it is much cheaper to produce. Similarly with vitamin e, dl-alpha is synthetic d-alpha is not.
Most vitamins are absorbed in the small intestine, so having tablets that are coated with a time release coating is beneficial as the nutrients will survive the acidity of the stomach better & as your body can only absorb so much of each nutrient at a time, the coating means you will be able to absorb much more than the same tablet uncoated, which is particularly important with water soluble b vitamins (especially so for what I've read about bypass patients with absorption issues / hair loss problems)
It's also wise to avoid any product that contains an 'E' number or a product where the 1st ingredient is a bulking agent as both are signs of a cheap ineffective product, many big brands do this too! So a cheaper product doesn't always mean it's a bad product.
There is a standard in the vitamin industry called GMP (good manufacturing practise) which guarantees that what is written on the label is in the product, as products are independently tested. Similarly, pots labelled pharmaceutical grade & bio-available are worth looking out for as you will be getting a better product.
I hope my limited knowledge helps someone!

I am one and a half years post op, and I take Forceval multivitamin prescribed by my doctor, as well as vitamin di and a skin, hair and nail supplement which I buy myself. I have not been deficient at all except in vitamin di at the beginning, which my doctor then corrected.

Hi. I'm 12 years out and take 1 forceval, 2 200mg iron. 2 1500mg ad-cal and 15mg lansoprazole. My GP has said I have to stay on the lansoprazole as there is now research regarding stomach inflammation due to the acid long term so it's no given as a precautionary measure.

All my tablets are on prescription. I also had a baby 10 months ago. I stopped taking the forceval then and had to take a maternity multi but kept the others and was given 5mg aspirin to stop the chances of pre-aclamsia.
