Emotional Eating?

Hi all! I wondered if anyone else is at my stage post op? In Jan 2013 it will be 2 years. I am finding I can eat more and I don't dump at all. Is this normal? Before and after pictures too

Firstly, well done on your weight loss.

Im nearly 3 years post op now and can basically eat anything, just in smaller portions than others.

I rarely dump now, but did have an episode the other day after a cappuccinno and a muffin, my own fault really, should know better.

You will find as time passes you can take in a little more food and eat more things, I still feel guilty each time I eat chocolate, cakes, crisps etc. You have to keep telling yourself its normal to eat these things. Its not about what you eat but how many times you eat it and and the quantities.

Its really easy to skip meals and snack on crap too. I still struggle to eat a full meal, even a much smaller sized meal, yet I can eat a whole bar of chocolate now and crisps.

I can manage bread now, but just one slice, and it has to have something wet on it.

I still cannot drink whilst eating, unless its a teeny tiny sip of wine.

Remember we are all different, what some can eat, others can't. You know your body and what you can and can't take, don't push it and listen to whats it telling you.

This is true for me too! I'm still losing (at an injured snails pace) and so have the motivation to not eat the naughties.

I'm 15mths post op & dump less well the violent toilet kinds anyway I get flushes & sleepy if I eat certain things but sadly its easier to live with a hot flush than an urgent loo break so to easy to have what you shouldn't. I'm fighting my demons all the time & due to other stresses I fail more than I win at the moment so have regained half a stone recently. Am off to the GP soon to see if I can get CBT help to beat them I don't want to waste this chance nor the funding spent on me. Yes personal demons are winning due to personal stresses but due to those same stresses I failed to take time to deal with them at the start of my journey post op. fear of dumping stopped me then now its an insidious creep of old behaviours risking the failure of so much success so far. Enough is enough I need to admit I can't do it alone & ask for help or at least some advice on where else to go for support so I don't fail the trust of the nhs & myself.

Thank you all for your replies. Very helpful. I get sleepy all the time after eating. Is this a form of dumping. I can not eat any where as much as I used to. I think I need to give myself a kick up the bottom and start on the healthy stuff only for a little while. Oh and the gym!

Sometimes it is yes but it's also our bodies in the early days making us rest to cope with the lower food intake.
But yes deal with your demons find ways or things to do to counteract them when they come knocking, build an arsenal of coping strategies as no doubt some days one way will work better than another dependant on the trigger. I didn't due to personal circumstances & now have nothing to call on deal with things prepare your inner defences while you have the time & impetus so if or when triggers happen you're prepared. Good luck.

i am 10 monhs post op and have also been emotional eating. i am really trying to deal with this as still a couple of stone off from where i want to be.
i also get very sleepy and achy when i eat too much or the wrong thing and just have to lay down.
i can also eat whatever but just smaller portions. a childs size portion. it is hard and like i said in another post it is just sheer willpower now which is a real struggle. We need to eat as a normal person does. a treat is fine but not every day which is what i am finding myself doing now!!!!
I think this is why i have been drawn back to this site as i am desperate not to go back to how i was.

you look amazing in you pics. I have put my most recent before and after shots as my screensaver to stop me eating!

I'm two years out now from RNY and I can eat anything too, but not a full meal (restaurant portion, let alone more than one course). I don't properly dump but I do get very sleepy after a big meal or loads of carbs, which is a form of dumping I'm told. I get uncomfortable if I eat too much (thank goodness that is the case!).
I lost most of my weight the first year, and about a stone or so the second year. I am happy with my weight (seeing where I was at my highest) but would like to find the motivation to keep going and eat healthier. The beginning of the year (as cliche as that sounds) seems ideal to get back on track :-)
