Dulcolax

I'm pre op trying to get healthy for my op which I plan on in Feb. I'm on a high protein low fat/carb diet and doing well. I've lost 1.5st since beginning of September, the only problem is constipation.

When I was eating crap foods I had no problems going 2-3 times a day now I'm lucky if I go 2-3 times a week!!

I've tried all the usual remedies, All bran, prunes, senna etc. The only ones which seem to work are ex-lax (but need to take at least 4 times the recommended dose!!) and dulcolax.

I started ducolax 2 weeks ago and took the one tablet as recommended for the 1st dose, which took about 24 hours to work, then last week I took 2 tablets. I had a few stomach cramps but nothing major and worked in 12 hours. I thought great I can handle this.

Well, I took 2 tablets last night, at 4 this morning really bad stomach cramps, backwards and forwards to loo for the rest of the night, so these tablets only took 5 hours.

Is this a common issue? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Ooo Tina I really think you need an appointment with your GP. Laxatives are fine short term but can't be a long term solution. It might just be your body adjusting to a new diet and will take time or could be a food intolerance of some kind- that happened to me. Either way I'd definitely ask medical advise!! Good luck and congratulations on your weight loss so far
Jo :)

2-3 times a week may well be totally normal if you are eating healthily and less food. I would say thats normal for me and I dont use laxatives. The food has metres and metres of guts to work through.
Dulcolax if taken in those quantities will certainly clear you out, ive had issues abroad before, i bung up due to the change in water, and i once took 4 and oh god all hell broke loose!
