Jackie's post sleeve diary

Hi Everyone
I thought I would share my experience by putting everything down in words.
I was admitted to the ward on Monday where I had bloods done, weighed, I seen the doctors and the surgeons. I have to say at this time I was so calm it was unreal. I was pleased to hear that I was first on the list so planned for 8.30 am trip to theatre. Anyway, op day was the 2nd June. I was taking to theatre and immediately put at ease by the anaesthetic team, next thing I know I was being woken up in Recovery! This first thing I said was 'Has he done it?'. I had been so scared that they were going to get in there and find my liver too big to operate!
Anyway, transferred to ward and to be honest was a little uncomfortable but no pain. just dozed and did manage to get up and walk to the toilet. Poor night sleep 1st night due to awful 'wretching' but still no real pain.
Day 1 up and about and a day spent sleeping to be honest. Was only allowed a litre of water for next 24 hours. This was the strangest thing as when I took a sip of water I could literally feel every movement it made into my stomach! Didn't manage much of this. Drip came down so that feels good. Slept really well that night too despite it being a really noisy ward.
Day 2. Up and about, some discomfort but bearable. Paracetamol helps. Wounds all clean and dry. Had a couple of teaspoons of porridge for breakfast but was not sure how much to eat. Did not get full feeling but not hungry either. Got home about 12.30 still just feeling really tired. I have to say the worst thing for me is these damn TED stockings, so tight and uncomfortable!
Anyway I hope I have not bored you all too much but this is the start of the new me!

Good to read your diary Jackie, sounds like you are recovering well. I hope you are sip sip sipping :) fluids most important first few days. Are you taking normal paracetamol or liquid ? How long does your hospital recommend you keep the stocking on for? Thinking I wasted my time getting a tan on me legs lol.

Hi
I am trying to keep sipping. To be honest I am not needing any paracetamol now although the hospital did discharge me with bottles of the stuff! The stockings have to stay on for 6 weeks! Nightmare! x

Sounds like you're doing great Jackie :)

Lucky you getting sent home with bottles of liquid paracetamol, I was given solid tablets from day 2 and sent home with nothing as I had my own prescription of cocodamol at home (whopping great big things)!!

Can't wait til your on the road again and we can all have a catch up. Seems bizarre that we all met 7 months ago, all pre op and now we're all done!!!

I know I was lucky Suzie with the paracetamol, mind I feel like a walking pharmacy. Was only on inhalers when I went in, now seem to be on loads. I am doing ok, bit uncomfortable but nothing considering.
Will be fab to catch up but might be a while until I can get across to Hartlepool :sigh: xx

Welcome to the losers bench. Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to hearing all about your new adventure xxxx

Thanks Bear, I am trying to sip finding it harder than it sounds ha ha xx

welcome on board! good to hear you are healing well.

Thanks Tules, seem to be ok at the moment. Just a bit unsure of everything! x

Hi jackie. Nice to hear you're doing so well. You know I'm going to be following you on your journey and hoping to learn alot from your diary..:) :)
Keep up the good work hun xx

Day 3 yesterday
I am managing the fluids not too bad just sip sip sip ha ha. Managed about 200 cals of pureed food yesterday, food just not appealing in any way. I had:
B - petit filous yogurt
L - teaspoon of mashed potato and lean corned beef. Did not go down well at all.
T - Thai red chicken curry and carrots.
Fluids about 1.5L

I know when you have your stomach removed you are not supposed to get hungry due to the hormone removal, however I am sure my stomach was rumbling yesterday, am I going mad?
Feeling quite good. Went for a drive with Hubby just to get out the house and that felt good.
The worst thing is still these damn TED stockings. I had an awful night sleep as they were digging into me. I ended up removing them at about 2 am.

Thanks for reading
Jackie

Morning, yeah at Sunderland you are put straight on puree foods for 4 weeks, only liquids for 24 hours. It's really strange the differences between places isn't it?
How you feeling?
xx

Yes it is strange, as that us a big difference to liquids for a couple of weeks.

Am OK today, had weirdness yesterday might be nerves I guess. Was constipated and wondering how long to leave it before I took something, read a few threads on constipation, the leaflet that came with my Laxido and then suddenly BAM I had a really bad case of the scoots. One extreme to the other, it may be my IBS flaring up, now wondering if I should get some diarrhoea pills in case I am caught short whilst traveling hime. Lol Will have a mobile pharmacy in my case :D. The weather has turned awful here, or should I say it is back to normal. Looks like October outside, not really shopping weather.
