So after a year and a half, I am finally being referred to tier 4 at Luton and Dunstable! I've been booked in to get an ECG done and to see the anaesthetist. Does anyone know what happens at this appointment??

Any info would be appreciated :)

When I had my ECG done they just asked me to strip to the waist , lay on a bed and I had some sticky pads stuck to my chest.the whole thing lasted no more than 10 minutes and was painless , meeting the anaesthetic she asked some questions re any pass surgical procedures my reaction to drugs checked my mouth for cracked, chipped teeth asked me to rotate my neck to see I think how much movement I have that appointment again lasted no more than 10 /15 minutes
hope this helps

Hi. I'm at the l&d also and I was referred to tier 4 in December, my 1st apppointment with the tier 4 doctor isn't until the end of Feb. Did you complete your tier 3 at a different hospital? When is your app at the l&d?

Hola!

I've got an appointment with the tier 4 doctor In January, then appointment with the anaesthetist beginning of February. I completed my tier three at L&D. I think they forgot about me for a while to be honest, cause it wasn't until I pushed it in December that they referred me. How about you? Where did you complete tier 3?

No not yet. Nothing tier 4 related has happened yet. Just have my appointments at the moment. I'm really anxious to find out how this will all play out tbh. Hoping tier 4 doesn't take as long as tier 3 did!

When I last had my appointment with the dietician she said from her referring me to tier 4 to seeing the first doc would be 1.5-2 months (which is about right). Then it would be a similar 2 months to MDT then a similar time again to be listed for the operation, so I reckon about end Jul/Aug for me....I still have the joys of the milk diet to do yet!

I have my three way app next week, what tier am I on? It's been ages since I have been as I had to cancel my app in November.
I have lost 4 1/2 stone since last Jan on the 1500 calorie diet and so far no milk diet!!! Xx

Hello!!

It may be worth calling up to find out if they have cancellations. I called up today and managed to get a slightly earlier appointment with the anaesthetist on the 21st Jan. Just a tip!! :)

Wow! 4 1/2 stone is amazing!! Well done!
I'm not 100% sure what tier you're on to be honest but I'm guessing you're on tier 3, as I was put on that same diet. Maybe give them a call tomorrow to clarify? Are you hoping to get weight loss surgery? x

It's my aim to have the surgery but am actually scared of the massive change it will bring with eating to start with. I lost 8 stone 10 years ago but couldn't keep it off and I so want the surgery but it's the unknown which hard!

Trust me Foxy, I completely understand. I've been wanting this surgery for so long as well, I feel like I'm FINALLY getting somewhere. Keeping my fingers crossed for your referral to tier 4!
How long have you been on tier 3?

It will be a huge change Lisa, that's also one of my fears. I'm also terrified of failing as I have done with every diet I've ever been on since age 14, but it's a chance we have to take - trying to keep positive - but I understand where you are coming from xx

Hi I'm new to the site and due to have my bypass done on 25th Feb, what I'm not understanding is all this tier 3 and 4 talk what's that all mean? I've had all my meetings/appointments now and not once was any tier levels mentioned, sorry if this has an obvious answer! TIA

Hola!!

There's normally a tier 1- 4 system. I think guidelines now say before you are considered for surgery you have to go through tier 3, which is basically trying to get people to lose weight without surgery. Once you've completed tier 3 you're referred to tier 4 where they start prepping you for surgery. It all depends on the individual though. You may have been referred straight to tier 4 like my sister was (she also had very limited knowledge of the tier system).

I hope that makes sense! :)

Ahh thank you Samkisses, it would seem I skipped these steps then as my first appointment with my surgeon he asked what I had done to try and lose weight and how long I had struggled with my weight, since I had done all the mainstream "diets" and the NHS Why weight and had "suffered" with my weight since I was born 9lbs 11oz he agreed to weight loss surgery immediately, the only question was which option was best, sleeve or bypass! Least some of these threads now make a bit more sense to me! Thank you
