Hi all I have viewed this site for the past two years whilst I struggled with the decision of having weight loss surgery. During this time I had previously booked WLS twice before and cancelled. Once November 2013 and again in April 2014.

I have read your threads and gone through many of your journey's with you without ever commenting. But believe me you have all given me strength to finally take the steps I needed on my journey. I have laughed and cried with you but silently.

I am 47 years of age and on 06/09/14 I weighed in at a hefty 17st 4lb ... I am 5ft 2 inches tall. The last time I weighed under 10st was when I was 9 years old and even then I was 9st. My story is the same as many of you a lifetime struggle with my weight. I have yoyo dieted for the past 24 years.

I have been addicted to exercise the times I wasn't addicted to food. I am a classic yoyo. I went to Thorpe park in July and was humiliated when I tried to get on my first ride and the safety bars would not shut over my chest. After years and years of humiliation this hurt the worse and I finally faced the fact that I needed drastic help. This along with the news that I am soon to become a grandmother and all the supporting threads and posts I have read on here helped me make up my mind.

On 06/09/14 I was sleeved at the Spire Brentwood by Mr Mannur and his team. I am home well and have lost my first 5lb.

Now I've posted there will be no stopping me and I will hope to support all of you in any way I can. I will try and keep a written and photo diary.

So hi everybody and thanks to you all and this site for the support I have found over the past two years. :)

any one post op ?? how long to you keep the sexy surgical stockings on ?? lol

Hello!! So happy you finally started your diary and cant wait to follow you through your journey :)

I had my bypass on the 6th of september. :)

I am still wearing the stockings and still have 5 days of self injecting with the medicine to prevent the clots. I am trying to be as active as i can, but its nowhere near to normal activity levels yet thats why i continue wearing the stockings even though they are way too long for me.. And that makes them so uncomfortable :) but if you are unsure maybe contact your team (nurse) and ask them? :)

How are you feeling? Do you still have pain? How are you doing with keeping your liquids down?

Hello Sarahr!
welcome to a great site ,im very happy that we were all helping even when we didn't know!
I wish you life long luck and happiness post op.do keep us posted

Hi guys I was scared that no one would see my post as I was quiet for so long.

LLora its great we had our ops the same day. O'll keep up with your progress.

I feel amazingly well had no painkillers since I've been home no sickness but taking the anti sickness tabs so that might be why. I'm managing to get in liquids no problem ,I'm having clear strained soup, watered down juice, milk and a tiny bit of smooth yogurt.

I'm totally mobile been out walking for half hour each day since Tuesday that's why I asked about the stockings hate being out with them on. My team said a week but was just wondering what others had been told.

I've still got two injections of blood thinning injections after today really don't like that bit. I cant believe how well I feel I have booked two weeks off work but might go back on Monday (I only sit at a desk) I keep saying to my husband if it wasn't for the 5 holes in my tummy I'd think he forgot to do the op.

I was absolutely terrified I thought I would get every complication going and Id never been under anaesthetic before.

How are you feeling Llora ? are you managing to keep down liquids?

Also if any one can tell me where to upload photos that would be great.

Welcome Sarahr and a massive well done for having your sleeve.

I cancelled a band back in May and am due to be sleeved in 10 days time. Will be following your story closely.

Thanks everyone. Llora it will be great to compare progress at our ops were on same day.
I'm feeling really well not and any pain since waking up after op. Not had any painkillers since I've been home and able to keep liquids down no problem...
Starting to wonder if he actually did the op lol. I'm totally mobile so that's why I asked about the stockings I've been on a half hour walk each day. My team say wear them for the week but embarrassed when out and about with them.
how are you getting on Llora any pain? or sickness ?
oh and any one tell me where I put photos on ?

Hi Sarah,

Well done and congratulations from me, a fellow Mannur sleever. I was done 4 month's ago and as of today 5 stone 2lb down from pre op diet weight :)

I stopped wearing stockings as soon as I got home as like you I was up and moving, walking, going to Westfield etc straight away! The only time I wore them again was when I flew to Spain 2 week's post op to recover in the sunshine.

You're lucky you feel so fine and haven't had any problems so far, I've had issues with lactose intolerance, vomiting, a diverticulum in my esophagus, anaemia but I don't regret a thing and I'm on the mend.

The surgery is the best thing you've ever done for yourself. It's a real life changer and I wish you all the best. You're in the right place for support.

Stacey X

I dont know about the photos, sorry :)

Glad you are feeling well!! :) what do you usually have to 'eat' during the day? :)

I still have some pain (still take liquid paracetamol). Most of it seem to be in my left side around the hole where my drain was. (Actually There are two holes close to each other in that area). There are nice big bruises there too (which are turning yellow finally).

Also i seem to have some back and neck aches (i am sure their due to my bad posture and the position i sleep in) :) i did get quiet uncomfortable last night. But i do understand its still early days.. I still think i am lucky to feel so good and am trully thankful of that! :)

I am moving around too. Going for two little walks outside (one in the morning one in the afternoon). But its nowhere near to my pre op activity levels for me yet ;)

I just hide the stockings in the shoes :) at least i imagine nobody can see them :)

I didnt experience any sickness or vomiting so far. Hope it will continue this way!! (Dont want to jinx it). But i know i dont have enough fluids yet (dont reach the recommended amount yet).

I am also thinking that maybe they just made holes that i would think they did bypass and didnt do anything with my actual insides :) :) :)

Hope you continue feeling well :)

HI Sarahr, been reading your thread and noticed we live in same area. Would love to chat to you more but cant IM you. I am not sleeved yet due to have mine in January and cant wait really looking forward to it. I know the Brentwood hosp as I was booked up with them for consultation, however, I decided to go abroad to Czech as a lot cheaper.

Good luck with your weight loss journey

Hi donna ive only just started posting dont think ican IM till I have 50 posts illget posting :)

Hi Everyone, well I had my first check up with Mr Mannur yesterday and he confirmed he had indeed made my stomach into a sleeve. He laughed at me cos I'm so worried that I feel fine. He kept saying fabulous fabulous.... I have lost 11lb since my surgery a week ago so am over the moon about that. I told him my concerns that I'm not sure I have restriction as I had not yet had that full feeling. After telling him what I had been consuming he said it was fine and told me to go onto liquidised wholesome soups as all I've been taking is strained tinned clear soup, milk and protein shakes and I've been sipping them slowly as instructed. So today I liquidised Tesco leek and potato fresh soup and yippee I have restriction ... Feeling great going back to work tomorrow as Mr Mannur thinks I'm doing fine and should go back to work... so far loving my sleeve

Wow Sarah, you've had a fantastic recovery. Good luck back at work tomorrow..

Hi sarah, I hope my recovery is as quick and as smoothly as yours. Well done on the weight loss x

hi donna thanks..I really cant believe it, Ive been reading and researching for 2 years before Op and I was prepared for every complication. I so hope yours does go this well, although it is still early days.

Can I ask how much you will pay abroad ? because I did look into it but it actually wasn't the sort of difference Id expected so I waited saved and paid that bit extra. Would be interesting to know if what you have found is a lot different.

The luxury of going to Brentwood is just being so close to home took me just 15 mins to get home when discharged and that was lovely.

Hi
Well I went back to work on Monday full of beans and so pleased with myself. Did really well on Monday sipped fluids all day and the chef from the café next door liquidised and sieved fresh soup at lunch time that I sipped all afternoon (didn't finish). By yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) had to leave work early really bad headache and feeling dizzy... and am off today. I think I just took things too quickly because everything was going well sitting at home and keeping to fluid diet I didn't realise how much harder it would be at work to keep up with the fluid intake. Ive had a good rest today and been intaking fluids also had my first movement so that may have been making me uncomfortable yesterday as well. On the plus side I am still not feeling sick and have taken the dressings off today and all that's there are little scratches not much at all and no pain :) Would love to hear how everyone's doing :)

Oh it does sound like you went back a bit too early. :)

Though i am pleased to hear that they blended and sieved your soup for you at that cafe!! Amazing! :)

I still have 3 wounds covered (practise nurse recomended to keep them still covered). I am glad though as i dont need to look at them everyday :) :) had a very week moment when i took the bandages off first time last saturday ;) ;) :) half of one wound opened up and started to bleed once i removed that steristrip..

Hope you will manage more fluids today :) i am on this mission too! :)

Hi Llora
The café next door to me is amazing I'm a Careers Adviser and am located in the local library/one stop shop. The café is run by the council employing local people with disabilities it is amazing as is the chef its so community based and they bend over backwards for you. The chef has told me he will adapt any of the meals throughout my journey I'm so lucky.
Feeling heaps better than I did earlier. I've managed a tiny yoplaif yogurt took me a while and am making my way through a watered down innocence smoothie...
