Welcome, I used to live in Telford 2 and a half years ago before I moved to Cornwall my GP there said there was no funding for surgery in Shropshire. When I came to Cornwall my GP referred me and I am now 3 months post op following a gastric by pass and 50 lbs down, don't regret it for a minute. This is a great forum and everyone is so supportive good luck

Hi - I live in Telford too :0)
I had my gastric sleeve 15 months ago but self funded as I was told there was no funding for it, but I guess it all depends on your weight and health conditions. I was 21 and half stones but no other medical condition.
I had my op at PRH, but my surgeon has since retired so he transferred my aftercare to NHS and I now see mr rink at Shrewsbury every 6 months.
Has your dr referred you?

Hi Emma7799, my original weight loss journey began in 2006 when I had a gastric band privately in belguim! This hasn't worked for me so have since had it removed, in 2014 after 8 years. I am now hoping for the sleeve, I have been to see the consultant and done the seminar, i'm now waiting for my next appointment which won't be till march/april to see the physiologist? Long wait i know but I'm so excited to be in the system. How has your weight loss been? I've had no mention of funding?? Should i be worried???

Don't be worried - You wouldn't have seen the consultant if the funding wasn't there. You're well on your way :)
I have lost 9 stone to date and another 1.5 to go although it is hard now to loose as my body is used to the reduced intake.
I don't regret it for one second I have gone from a size 26 to 12!!!
Who's your consultant?

Wow 9 stone that's awesome :) my consultant is Mr Manel Riera, just the waiting is killing me as I now have to wait till March/April for my next appointment :sigh:It's just a long waiting game, but I know it's going to be well worth the wait :)

Hello fellow Telford dweller :) Congratulations on your magnificent loss, that's amazing.

Hello menasher.
How have you been since having the band out?
March / April isn't too far away for the next appointment. You never know, it might come through sooner. How did you find the seminar? Did they do the slow eating thing? I found that amazing. I realised how much of a shove it in and eat it quick kinda person I am. I've got a lot of adjusting to do! I too was thinking about the funding as I've seen people on here mentioning tier 3/4? But at the seminar, I got the impression that we'd all been approved, bar medical problems. Exciting!

Hiya yeah I did the slow eating thing with a raisin lol, it was weird but it was like that with the band! Not been good since I had my band out I've put on over 2 stone!! How's ur journey gone so far? have u got a date for surgery yet? When did u start ur journey, sorry for all the question.I hate not knowing what's next grrrrrrrr.

It must be difficult after having the band out, I think I would have put more than 2 stone on.

For me it feels fast because for years I was like 'no, I don't want the op, I put the weight on and I want to lose it'. So it's only since September I changed my tune so I still think I need to get my head around it. I do think it's the right decision and while I am keen to have the op, I don't feel in a desperate rush. I don't know, maybe I'm just a bit scared but tricking myself into thinking I need time to adjust! Haha.

I haven't got a date for surgery. I'll know more next week hopefully after I see the dietician and consultant. I'm worried that I'll need an endoscopy or other tests so that's on my mind before I can think about a surgery date! To answer your question, I was referred in mid September, saw a consultant (or one of his team) in mid October and had the group seminar in November. I was away in December, then with Christmas and having a bug since new year, the Feb appointments have come round quite quickly!

Do you work? If you do, have you told them? How long do you think you'll have off to recover. Again I'm not really thinking about the op, it's all the other bits lol

Yes I work but I'm self employed so don't have to think about that side of things, the only bonus of being my own boss lol. I am pretty clued up about the sleeve op and post op etc as I have spent months researching it. It's all I think about, I just want my journey to start, I thought this was the case 8 years ago but for me it completely failed!! so i'm back at the beginning but so excited to be here. I haven't told anyone about my wls apart from my hubby.

Oh that's good, I guess you can take as much time as you need!
Aww I think your journey has started already :) I'm sure they said at that seminar that on average it takes 6 months from referral to op so that's not that long really. For me, January has flown by, so 5 more of them, or less, means op time! Aargh, scary!
The whole thing is exciting! All the good things are coming our way :)
I haven't told many people about this either. I don't want any negativity or other people's opinions or horror stories! Plus it'll be nice to bump into people I haven't seen for a while and see if they notice the weight loss haha
