2nd Consultation today.. finally booking Gastric Band!

Hi everyone.

In 2014 I went for my 1st consultation with THG and decided to give myself one more year trying before going ahead with the gastric band. Got my consultation booked for this evening and have made my mind up I'm going for it!

They've given me two possible dates of 7th Feb (eek...so soon!) and the 19th March with Dr James Halstead at Dolan Park.

I've read quite a few posts but what I really need to know before making my decision as to which date I will be choosing is how long will it be until I can drive! I'm hoping it will be a few days as my kids both go to schools quite far from where we live and due to my hubby's work schedule he can't do drop off's. I could get my parents to do the morning run but will need to give them a heads up.

Any advice from those of you that have had the band would be really helpful!

I've also never been under general before so I am quite anxious about that. Excited overall but any advice any of you can give me would be appreciated.

The official guideline after surgery for insurance purposes is ten days I gave it two weeks you have to feel able to do an emergency stop good luck X

Thanks for that Monalisa, looks like I'll be roping in the grandparents then! Did you wait that long to go back to work if you don't mind me asking. I'm mainly at a desk so nothing too strenuous

I had about six weeks off as my throat was damaged with the anasthetic pipe and I couldn't swallow got dehydrated and one of my wounds became infected I was unlucky but would say ud need at least two weeks off Xx

Hi Neticak - Did you have your band fitted yesterday? If so how are you and how did it go? hope you're ok xx

Hi Lou, had my band fitted 4 days ago. I have to be honest I felt terrible and couldn't stop thinking I'd made a huge mistake.

Today I am feeling slightly better in myself the dressings are off and I have more energy. Im struggling with knowing whether or not I'm full so just drinking water really.

Any tips on what Fluids to be taking would be appreciated. I've tried slim fast but i can't finish even 125ml

Hi, I felt exactly the same. I was banded on the 3rd on Feb so just a few days before you and only today do I feel slightly better. I'm also with you on the thoughts of 'do I feel full, or is it the pain of surgery that I feel' I have the trapped wind from surgery that is in my left shoulder and quite painful. He also found a hernia which was repaired and I think this is causing me the pain more so than the band, and to top it off think I now have mouth and throat infection. I'm a right moaning Minnie at the mo ... I seem to be ok with the fluids, having Tesco meal replacement shake which is 250ml. I do however have to warm it up only slightly so its not too cold and that seems to help. How did you get on with the custard and yoghurt at the hospital? Hope you manage to get more down you soon.

Hi Lou, I'm glad there's someone else out there feeling the way I do! I am starting to feel a bit more positive now and I'm sitting down to eat with my 2 kids and hubby which I thought would be horrible but I just don't have the desire to eat what they are! Have managed lentil soup blended and watered down and I'm going to try the slim fast warmed up as you suggested.
I'm sorry to hear about your pain.. Tbh I'm only experiencing the shoulder pain very little - have you tried the chewable windeze?
I can't stand bananas so only had a few mouthfuls of yogurts. Was it your post I was reading about being kicked out into reception? I have to admit I'll be leaving a bad review for Dolan Park - it was all very impersonal and not at all as it was made out to be. I was in really bad pain at about 2am and pressed my buzzer took the nurse about 15mins to answer which got my blood pressure even higher then they never even bothered checking it again after giving me tramodol. Was also asked at 9.30am when my husband was coming to pick me up I said he should be on the way so she called him as my battery was dead- when she said I'd be waiting in reception he said don't be stupid I'm on my way. Lol I love my husband and his bluntness sometimes!
