hi everybody. I am sure I have posted before, but here goes!

I am Carolyn, I live in South Wales and will be having the Roux-en-y in Morriston. I will be 50 this year, extremely overweight and am a diabetic on insulin with polycystic ovaries and everything else no-one dies of! The good news is that the majority of this will be controlled if my weight was more healthy. I have no energy at all, and am looking forward to not being so frustrated at not being able to do anything!

I have seen the surgeon twice, the anaesthetist and the diabetiologist. I was told at the beginning of January that I will be operated on within 6 months.

I have been in this process since November 2014 so I am looking forward to it, but I am really nervous. What happens to the skin after the op? Do you look worse afterwards? Will exercising help (when I have the energy)?

I am currently doing Slimming World and have lost 1/2 a stone - no huge amounts, but at least it is going the right way! :)

Thanks for reading guys :thankyou:

hello and welcome

Welcome! And good luck with the weight loss journey. All the information and advice on there is fantastic - and never feel daft asking a seemingly weird question - I bet you someone else will be thinking it too! :D x

Hi Carolyn and welcome. I had my RNY 30months ago aged 52. Also have PCOS but had partial hysterectomy in my 30's. I still have the hair problem dispite losing over 15St but tbh it didn't figure into why I got the op in the first place. I was a physical mess living on borrowed time. In my eyes my bypass has been the best thing that has happened to me. Without trying to sound crass I feel reborn. My husband thinks he has a new woman and my only regret is not getting the op sooner. The skin issue is very much ,pardon the pun, in the lap of the gods. Some people fair bad others don't. There is no magic formulae. Exercise in my opinion is a requirement for every post opper it won't be a magic wand for stopping loose skin developing however it will tone up the muscle structure and make your skin plump out in the right places. It's also good for prime weight loss. Good luck in your journey

thanks Beepbeepcat and Femfrankie.

I'm surprised that you still have the hair problem - I was hoping that it would go. But thank you for the advice. And well done to you all for your weight loss :)
