Gastric Balloon Spatz Balloon going in tomorrow!

Due to have my balloon inserted tomorrow (weds 3rd) at Spire Hartswood

Would appreciate any hints from experienced balloonists on the best way to prepare over the final 24 hours, and the best/fastest way to recover after! Hopefully I'd like to be out in my taxi by the weekend, time off work is expensive when you are self employed!!

I've got plenty of mineral water chilling in the fridge, and some sugar free jellies. I've never been a big soup eater so wasn't quite sure what they meant by "thin" soups, so assumed they meant soups with no lumps in and have stocked up with heinz cream of tomato, I guess if that is too think I can always water it down a bit while warming it up

I've been taking the pre-procedure drugs I was sent, and have been told not to eat or drink for 5 hours before the appointment.

Was a big naughty and went to the pie 'n' mash shop yesterday and had what will hopefully be my last ever "double double with extra liquor"

I found it

Hope all went well for you

The doctor said it went well, I'm feeling a bit rough today, although not as bad as I was lead to believe I would be.

Main problem I'm having is keeping fluids down :(

Wow, I clearly spoke too soon when I said it wasn't as bad as I was lead to believe!

I have just suffered through 2 days of projectile vomiting, acid heartburn from hell. Literally felt like my throat and gullet were on fire

I still feel like absolute crap, I've read my emails for the first time since the balloon went in, and now I'm going back to bed.

Starting to wonder just what I've done to myself . . .

feeling a lot better this morning, just spoke to the nice lady at NOSC who has been calling me daily since the balloon went in, and she is happy that I'm doing well.

feeling a bit more energetic too, going to try to go to work for a few hours later on today, see how I get on!

they've suggested trying regular small amounts of soft food to combat the heartburn.

On the plus side, jumped on the scales and I've lost just over a stone in the 5 days since it went in!!

Well two weeks in now. the first week was by far the worst. was back at work half days on day six and full time on day nine

Still don't feel 100%, although I am functioning. Feeling tired and lethargic for a lot of the time. my advisor at NOSC says it's just my body adjusting to the new food intake levels. Would be interested if others have had the same issues in the first few weeks

On the plus side 1 stone 8lb gone in two weeks. . . . .

Great news on the weight loss and in time you will start to feel better and begin to enjoy the new you !

Hi Mat! Great news on weight loss! I was told the first 10 days are pretty horrendous.... Hope you are over the hill. Having my balloon fitted in the next three months, and then having a gastric bypass 6months after. So excited and ready now! I was just wondering, if you dont mind, could you share your start weight please? As a fellow male, I've not seen many balloon stories and would like as much insight as possible, especially in regards to weight loss and success.

I was 24st 4lb on the morning it went in.
Yesterday on my 3 week weigh in I was 22st 6lb

The first week was horrendous, second week I was able to work and function but still felt pretty rubbish, Just starting to feel fully "normal" again after 3 weeks.

It does seem to be working, I've got mine in for a year, hoping to lose enough that I avoid the need for surgery . . .

Well another week down, another 3lb loss this week 5 weeks in and 2 stone 4lb gone!!

Actually starting to feel better too now, more awake, more energetic, I've even been swimming a couple of times this week!

Hi Matt, sounds like the balloon is a success so far! I'm thinking of getting the Spatz balloon. have you continued to lose weight since your last post? Have your found that your appetite has reduced? Hope all is well. Sarah x
