Is 2 much the same as 1?

Hello all,

We have a cute westie called Lucia. When we got her we lived next door to 2 other dogs & they all played together daily & we walked together all the time.

We have since moved & are more rural so no neighbourly dogs & I am convinced Lucia is lonely, so I thought about getting another dog but husband says no as it would make life harder.

I'm not convinced, well apart from the fees of having them looked after while we go away going up but other than that surely it would be better for lucia?

But if I don't get to get another dog has anyone got any tips for keeping her happy & not lonely? She is with me for the majority of the day anyway but I still worry.

I have 4 dogs, and to be honest as long as you pick a breed that fits in with your lifestyle 2 dogs is no harder than 1. having said that I probably should have stopped at 3. I do think its nicer when you do have to leave them, that they have a doggy friend for company. what makes you think that she is lonely?

To be honest I can't pin point it, she just seems different since we moved house, & my only thought was that she missed her friends.

Maybe i'm wrong I don't know but she is my little baby I don't want her to be sad.

And thank you for you reply it was kind of you

I've got one mad Labrador,we trained him to get the post when the postie delivers the mail.now as we have wood laminate flooring it's like something out of a loonie toons cartoon when he hears the letter box ratatat he's running going nowhere frantically til the friction connects with his paws.he thinks he on one mad retrieving mission.

We have had two dogs most of the time but just one (John) for the last few years who we lost about 3 months ago. When we first got John he was on his own, then we got another but after a couple of years they started fighting so we rehomed the other one and kept John as he was really attached to my husband. I really don't feel there is much more work having two as one. As you said it will cost more for kennels but that's it really. I think you are the person who knows your own dog best and if you think she's lonely then she probably is.
