Hi all,

I came out to Belgium to have a sleeve done with dr Chris De Bryune. He said everything went fine but i have never been in such pain in all of my life.

I have been discharged to my hotel and given some dissolvable tablets which i cant take as they make me sick.

I'm all on my own and petrified - i come back to the uk tomorrow through Eurostar but honestly dont know how i will travel with this pain.

Im so scared, please help me?

Xxx

Oh Shauna I feel for you because I posted a similar message myself on Sunday. On Monday I was on foreground, back to home.
I could not take those horrid soluable pain killers either. I was given a drip with paracetamol.
For home I was given tiny code in tablets. Can you demand this one of your surgeon?

After that horrendous day, I can honestly say I did not need the pain killers.
Oh you poor lamb.
Call them and demand those codein tablets.

If you're still in pain when you get back go to a&e. Addenbrookes helped me after my private surgery. Xx

There are some people considering your surgeon for the opportunity Shauna and asking for feedback. Tell him that.
His job is to make you comfortable, now.

Hey tules,

Thanks so much for the support.

Literally beside myself in pain to the point where you feel like your having an outter body experience - do you know what i mean??

I'm not sure what it is but in Belgium they tend to be very strict on pain relief and after a call with my patient manager i'm bot allowed anything other than the dissolvable :(

Decided that as soon as i'm back in the uk tomorrow im going to a&e as this pain is unlike anything i've never experienced in my life.

I'm unable to move in bed, get up to use the toilet and honestly feel like my tummy is going through hell on earth.

I'm so desperate to get home and get help xxxxx

Oh I am so sorry. Keep pushing though. The just cannot leave you in pain. There must be small paracetamol tablets.
Is the pain still bad? Try different positions in bed and walk a bit - it can be wind ( apparently they inflate stomach during operation- I had pain relating to that).
Ask them what pain killer you can purchase tomorrow morning. There are even paracetamol supporotories - check you can have that for the journey.
Do people pester that patient manager, you paid for this service.

I took tablets straight after op for pain as soluble made me feel sick so you could try that. I'd be reluctant to travel if you feel so ill, get onto them first thing and demand they see you it's what you e payed for.

Here all the time.....
After my bypass I had morphine initially which makes me feel sick so I had as much Perhedine as I needed. I wasn't in any pain at all thanks to my regular visits from surgeon and UK based hospital.

I would be inclined to get close to home and where you know and use your nhs. I was in barely any pain post bypass. This doesn't sound normal to me. Keep us posted!

How worrying and horrible for you. I hope the pain is easing and you're able to make a relatively comfortable trip home. x

Thanks guys :) just on the Eurostar home now! I was praying to god that my sleeve would be simple as but doesn't look like it's going to be the case!

Still feeling very sick and my tummy is in pieces - i cant move very fast, lift or move myself with ease.

Looking forward to home now xx

Have a nice journey. You should not pick up anything.
Take it easy.
Hope it's nothing and you will be fine by tomorrow.

I had both my surgeries with dr Chris, he is a very good surgeon but the bedside manner is a lot more strict over there! I hope you feel better, the next 48 hrs should be better. You will feel better once your home and more comfortable. I absolutely hate the soluble pills even the thought of them make me gag! When I got home I took calpol 6 plus. It's suger free and has an adult dose option plus it's not fizzy. However if of course you don't feel better then you need to go to a and e. Don't forget though that people's pain levels are different and you are still recovering from the anaesthetic and have just had major surgery and are only able to take paracetamol. Please keep us updated x

Went to a&e last night and was admitted to a ward. The only thing that would stop the pain was gas and air - not even morphine would touch the sides! Feeling better today just hoping that this is not going to be the rest of my life x

Oh goodness I've just spotted your post..l. You poor thing! I'm so pleased your home and been taken care of... I didn't have very much pain really. It was certainly manageable... I'm sure it will settle down, it could be the trapped wind ( which is really painful) but there are nerves in you tum that get cut through also. Did you have a barium X-ray in Belgium to check for leeks etc?.... If not you want to ask them to do one in the UK to check your staples are all intact... If all is well with the surgery it will soon start to calm down as your body heals. I'm shocked they discharged you in Belgium as I was kept in an extra 8 hours because they weren't happy fluid was passing through well on the X-rays.
I do hope your feeling less pain now!.... Keep us posted but trust it will get better hun.
