Band complications/bypass - white flem

Has anyone who had the band previous who suffered from white flem (feeling stuck )experiencing the same with the bypass? I am nearly 4 weeks out this Thursday and it's happened the last two days. Only had 1/2 weetabix at 6.30 tried a yoghurt at 9.30 only ate half was sick but not sick like vomiting but the White flem stuff, then just tried fishermans pie ate half got stuck and white flem came up again. It's the reason why I had the band out in the first place .Am I eating too much? X

The way I understand this happens when the food is too much in volume, not chewed eno ugh to get through, or food eaten too quickly so it "back-up" above pouch and the body produces that gluey salivate horrid stuff to try and shift it. Small mouthful s, chew loads, leave gaps between mouthfuls. 20/20/20 rule was explained on here a while back, chew for 20secs, fork down and wait for 20 secs, stop eating after 20 mins (hope that's right)'it works for me

Thank you for replying, rang the hospital they are going to speak to surgeon. When this happened with the band I could not even swallow tea. Let's see what they say. I thought I was eating slowly with a teaspoon and fishermans pie it was mash minus the fish, could not find any. Lol. X
 
Hi Bedford, have had the same happen on two occasions, once eating scrambled egg and the other with flaked smoked cod and mashed potatoes. Not painful, like being sick, it took about an hour to clear with the egg, brought most of it back up. I think it is known as reflux. I am being a lot more careful how I eat, not happened since, it's all a learning curve, knowing how much and how fast you should eat and whether you take any air down with it, because I was kind of burping then it would come up.

Be interesting to know what surgeon says.

Just spoke to surgeons registra. I have to go back to sloppy food.weetabix is ok to have in the morning. Then to ring surgeons secretary tomorrow morning to make appointment with surgeon. Also need to eat more regular. X

Phoned hospital first thing 9am I phoned back at 4pm to tell me surgeon could not see me till my appointment 1 june, but he was getting the nurse to call me urgently. Had weetabix for breakie again , tried beef broff soup has one mouthful and was sick again. A couple of hours later I tried 4 teaspoons of cottage cheese. This stayed down. Nurse range me at 4.15pm she wants me go back to having liquids again and she will speak to surgeon tomorrow and see if he wants to come to hospital. I have managed to eat only 131 today, can't get much liquid down, just told to keep sipping. X

Update the nurse called this morning to say still stay on liquids and if I can't get liquids down in the next couple of days I need to go to A&E.

6.30 - tea
7.50- 8.30 - drank 3/4 of a cup of tea
10-12pm - half a bottle of protein -sick
13:30 sip of water and paracetamol as had headache - sick
13:45 -sip - water
14:30 sick
14:39 sip - water
14:50 sip- water
15:30-15.55 - coffee

It's strange how I had no restriction and then bang. Just had to come home from work as feeling rough. I don't fancy soup as my stomach feels so sore. Maybe I will try in a couple of hours

It's only happened to me twice. Once with scrambled egg and once with fish. First time, I felt I met the rules but some people struggle with egg. Second time, I ate too quickly and didn't chew enough as I was distracted doing something whole eating.

I've had several other times where I ate too much but just about got away with it. Now I've not had a problem for a month as I seem to be able to find the right time to stop easily. It's like a little voice in my head and as long as I don't ignore it, I have no problems.

The white flem the first time; I thought it was egg white :eek::cry:

Thank you for asking. I was admitted into A&E given x-Rays, bloods etc.. Been put back on liquids again . Have been ringing nurse everyday to give her up date.

I think I might have resolved it but won't know till tomorrow am.. I have been spreading my tablets throughout the day so my stomach is not overfilled. Also instead of weetabix I will try ready break.. Maybe weetabix is too solid for my tummy. You know what is like when it goes cold it turns in to concrete. They have booked me a ct scan in case I can't manage the food again. So hopefully things are looking up x

Glad things are improving. Sounds like you had a bit of a rough time.

I tend to just have a glass of milk for breakfast. Soup for lunch, and then something reasonably easy for tea(though not always - I'm slowly trying to improve my intake).

I sometimes have a yoghurt at 10am as a snack, as milk isn't really enough for breakfast.
