Leah's Pre Op Diet Diary!

It's a bit late to start a post op diet as I'm already at day 4 but I'm thinking it might be a good idea!

DAY FOUR.
So far today the goals for today are:
568ml of semi skimmed milk.
1.5-2 litres of water.
Half a can of vegetable soup (In 2 sittings with added water)
2 calcium sachets
10ml of ferrous fumarate (But so far I can't keep it down at all)

And since this morning I've had:
1 small mug of tea. (+milk and water)
1 Muller corner yoghurt (+milk and water)

Really struggling with the ferrous fumarate liquid. I threw it up twice yesterday before managing to keep it down and once today. I'm wasting it buy throwing it up but it won't stay down at all!

Just realised that I went and named this pre op diet when it's post op! Dammnit!

Aaaaanyway!

DAY FIVE!
So far today's been a weird one. Had a nice lie in and woke up feeling weak and tired which is not like me at all. Luckily my neck pain has eased slightly but I felt a little shakey until around 2pm after I'd eaten half a can of soup.

So far today:
200ml of water with calcium sachets
1 small mug of tea with semi skimmed milk
1 small mug of semi skimmed milk
1 half can of pea and ham soup with added water
1 small mug of tea with semi skimmed milk
1 small glass of raspberry squash

I'm planning on making up some jelly for later to try some texture and the other half can of soup!

Well done honey - getting the right amounts in you is impressive at this stage! All I can advise is listen to your body. It seems to know what it needs and when!

Good luck with the weight loss :) x

I'm a bit confused as to why I feel I can get so much in.
I keep thinking like "maybe they haven't made my sleeve as small as everyone else's ?!!"

And then I eat my soup for dinner and I feel it but it's never what I expect.
I expect to feel fullness like after you've choked down a whole 14" pizza and chips (which I used to manage beforehand).
Instead I feel just a little uncomfortable and my tummy gurgles like crazy! Is that restriction?

Hahah!! I'm also managing to swallow a good two full mouthfuls of liquid at stone which seems a lot but then if I don't wait a little in between I get the same feeling.

So tempted lately to try a few harder things. Crackers have tempted and I did have a Pringle on the weekend which I chewed to oblivion until it was less than a paste and it went down fine and then I felt upset and guilty with myself but also I almost wanted my body to reject it.

Struggling with the mental aspects I think.

I feel the same way. I don't ever feel "stuffed" - but then we're not meant to. We're meant to stop at "not hungry" and never feel full. I wouldn't worry - part of this process is the psychological changes and they can take some time. I'm seeing a counsellor to overcome the issues that go with food and dramatic weight loss.

As long as you're not being sick or dumping, and the weight is coming off, I'm sure everything is fine. The uncomfortable feeling is just your stomach saying "hold it, I need a rest" - I get it if I forget to wait between mouthfuls sometimes.

Keep up the good work x

POST OP DAY 11!

I'm finding things weirdly easy until I finish eating!

I know my downfall is snacking and since surgery I have managed to resist snacking as I know I'm not really hungry. Filling up on tea, squash and milk has made it a lot easier.

I don't know why but I keep feeling like I can eat as normal and then meal times come around and I make up half a can to a full can of soup and when I don't finish I get like a confirmation that I've had surgery!
But in the spaces in between I feel totally normal.

It's hard to explain haha.

On the lighter side of things, does anyone know how vital the Lansoprazole is?
While in hospital I was only given it once and it wasn't on the list of meds I was told to take everyday.
Yet in my discharge Papers it says to take one daily.
Makes me sick all these meds :(

I was told it was compulsory after surgery as it keeps your stomach acid down. Essential to allow for healing apparently. And yeah, the meds are a pain. I fou d it easier to swallow everything with a smoothie rather than water.

I've been managing to chew mine up with my yoghurt in the morning and it seems to be working fine!

Anyone else experience a semi hard spot at the stomach scar?
It's not a really hard bit but when lying in bed I had a feel and there's a sort of hardness under the skin.

It's probably nothing to worry about. I started some softs yesterday even though it was early as I felt ready. Just so everyone's clear it was liquidy consistently still but more of a bite than beforehand. Wondering if that's why?

I had some hard bits under my scars, but they seem to be fading. I wouldn't worry about it unless they are really painful.

No pain at all so I'm guessing they're fine!

Hoping I get a loss this week. It's hard to tell when I'm jumping between two sets of scales!

Trying to get in some better liquids today.
I made up a mini smoothie with strawberry, kiwi and fruit and seed mix. It tasted okay, a little gritty but I'm guessing that was the seed shells and kiwi seeds but wasn't too bad.
Seeds had a lot of protein for the 20g portion I had!

Good luck, Cherry! :) Congrats on being post op. I hope everyone goes well.
I think you can rename your posts, im just not sure how. which i know isnt helpful! but at least theres hope, right? lol

Feeling a bit low today.
Officially 2 weeks and 2 days post op today and yet I haven't lost anything since week 1!

I'm not sure what's going on. I even gained a pound when I stepped on this morning?! How is that even possible?!

I'm gonna start recording on my fitness pal again and keep trying to get my liquids in as I'm so confused. I get all the feelings of restriction when I eat but no losses ?
Proper low now :(

Thanks Victoria.
Sadly for me post op isn't all it's cracked up to be yet, I know it's early days and I'm probably jumping to conclusions far too early though

Oh hunny - so sorry to hear you're down. It could be down to a few things but if you're worried give your team a call. It might be that you're not moving enough, or not having enough water, or just not have enough bowel movements.

Give your team a call. And stop worrying. It will come off, it has to! :)

Thanks love :(

I feel like I'm gonna be that one in a million cases where it doesn't work out!

I know I've been struggling with portions, even with my side plate im still listening to how I feel and leaving food but afterwards I'm so uncomfortable and have been experiencing what I believe to be dumping which is horrible!!

First day back to work tomorrow and I'm dreading it! 10 hour shift alone in the shop is gonna be a real test

Don't force it. I tried to go to solids too early and went back to liquid mush. I'm still preferring small amounts of solids with lots of gravy or sauce. Make sure you're not forcing anything down that's uncomfortable.

I have discovered a new love of smoothies. Innocent do a great one with extra vitamins, "Defence", that I have as a go to if food is really not working for me.

Good luck in the shop today. And lean on your surgery team. That's what they're there for.

xx

I've tried that one and love it already haha!

On the downside one of the staff in my shop resigned yesterday so we're gonna be attached over Christmas.
More to the point though I'm in a bit of pain, it was only a little ache yesterday but today it hurts to move around and I'm worried ive done something :( xxx

Hope work goes well. Take it easy and be kind to yourself. It's still early days so just follow your plan and it will come off. Any worries call your team I am sure they can reassure you.

Hope you're feeling better today, Cherry! try not to get disheartened, like slinky said it could be so many little things that add up to no loss. you will probably find you have a bigger loss in the next couple of weeks or something. maybe if you feel uncomfortable after you're eating because you're eating until you feel restriction you should put a little less on your plate so you dont feel it so much? it might be taking a little longer to register the feeling and then by the time it does you're over full. Just a suggestion.. i havent had the op yet so i wouldnt really know. but i guess it wouldnt hurt to try, just in case

You're right Victoria.
I've been buying and making smaller meals the last couple of days and I feel s tad uncomfortable but nothing like I had been feeling.
It is still so hard to know what kind of portion is gonna be right!

I bought a little pot pie from sainsburys that was basically beef, chorizo, butter bean, olive and potato in a spicy tomato sauce on Friday and the portion was about 200g mashed with a fork and chewed aplenty and I barely touched the sides!!!

On the upside I had a 2.5lb loss when I checked on Sunday! Xxx
