I had a call from the hospital today that has sent me into a spin. I am due to have my band removed and revision to a sleeve. I had expected nothing to happen for months given the battles I have had with them. So today the dietician calls and tells me they want me to start the pre op diet immediately as I need to be on it at least 6 weeks and then hints that surgery may happen in September.

They have clearly changed the procedure since I had my op in 2010. She told me I must attend a group meeting which is compulsory. I am booked in for this on 18 August. Has anyone any recent experience of WM and what happens at these meetings and how soon after, surgery occurred?

I am so tired with battling them - I really did not think this would happen let alone so soon after they agreed to put me on the waiting list to do the surgery. With everything that is happening at the moment it is the wrong time. I know however if I delay I am putting my life at risk - I am petrified what they will find when they go in. Some of the experiences of other people who have had revisions has left me very worried - not so much for myself but what will happen to Mr TB if I don't make it:(.

I am going to try and stay positive. I will not be able to take any sick leave so it will have to be use my holiday sparingly and see if I can negotiate working from home for a short time - I am not sure I can do this - I am so full of doubt. Sorry to offload - I think I am still in shock. I do not want to sound ungrateful because I am not. It is just so hard trying to think how I am going to get through this right now:cry:.

Sorry to hear you were surprised by the quick movement if all the things. I am sure you just need to calm down, sleep on all this info and you wont feel so stressed as you do know. I am sure the things will work out for you. You will think of the best way to handle the situation once you give it some more thought.

Good luck :)

Thanks for the info. Bit worried about the long wait you had from the meeting to surgery. At least I know what to expect:).

Hello valentine

When I was put on the list I was told that I would have to do any pre op diet for 6 to 8 weeks given the problems that occurred when I had my first op. What those 'problems' were I have still not been told. So...I am just going to do as I am told!

So many different time stages for everything depending on where surgery is performed..

My original surgery in 2004 which was a band I weighed 21st 7lb and wasn't asked to do a single day of LSD.

Jump forward 10 years ..

I'm 19st 7lb

I'm un banded and about to have my bypass in a few days and I was asked to do 13 days LSD

(started on day of hospital appointment as was slipped into a surgery slot by consultant and not his bariatric co Ordinator)

Felt like a dream walking out the hospital with a surgery date in my hand lol

I bet it felt like a dream. I have been battling for so long to get this sorted that I thought it would never happen. I got the CCG involved and after months and months of delay - for instance it took them 6 months to even acknowledge the complaint letter I sent to them - it appears the Chief Executive for the trust that runs the hospital got dragged into it. I get an appointment to see the consultant who did the op and end up seeing both the consultants who were involved in my op and have been seeing me post op which I did not expect. I walk out at the end of the appointment being put on the list and did not expect to hear anything further for months - that was 5 weeks ago - so I was shocked to get the call.

So I have started the pre op diet. It has not been too bad so far only because I am distracted by all the other drama in my life right now. Whether I will still feel the same three weeks from now will be another matter!
