Can I join your group?......
I had a band in 2010, lost 5 st and down 5 dress sizes.
Then 18 months ago started with lots of problems, it's a long story but now surgeon has said band needs to come out and convert to bypass. I put 3 st back on and feel like I'm starting over!
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's had a similar experience.
I'm wondering if post op recovery is any different? Longer in hospital? and what to expect really :)

Wow, Alison, sounds like we are having similar problems and surgeries around the same time. For me, the band caused all my problems with silent reflux/laryngopharangeal reflux. The dysmotility means that when I swallow anything I start coughing and regurgitating, almost choking. I get acid coming up and burning my vocal cords. It's all connected and caused by the band. My surgery USA week today so thus time next week I should be starting my new journey. Feels like I'm starting again! I'm only 2 st lighter than when I first had band done. Milk and yogurt diet is going well and I. Staying in trying to avoid viruses!
Keep in touch and let me know how you're going. Ruth

Hi Alison,
Sounds awful. Is your band deflated now to ease pressure and try to calm it down? I had my pre op already and my op is Thursday 11th, day after your pre op. Hope it goes well. Let me know how you get on xx

I'm a band > bypass revisioner. It had to be done in two stages as the band had done a lot of damage to my stomach. The band removal procedure was more severe than the RNY. However I waited three more years and the band had badly migrated.

Yes, I was out 24 hours after the op. Recovering in a hotel for the weekend before travelling home.

I'm home had the band removed hernia repaired and bypass done went in Monday out today just had a puréed cauliflower cheese and turkey soup not as bad as I thought was dead surprised the amount of meds I went home with lol just a quick query I'm guessing I can't qualify for a medical exemption certificate as this is a life long condition of needing meds for the rest of my life I'm best off getting a prepaid on for the year?!!
