1st stage of my revision

Hello, my name is Mazza and I'm an alcoholic - whoops wrong forum No really, just kidding.

I thought I would add a thread here as I am now on my pre op band removal diet - woo hoo!

For those of you who don't know me its a really long story. So I'll just tell you the up shot. I have a large epi gastric hernia, eosophagitis caused by GERD (caused probably from me regurgitating each time I bend, as the hernia moves out and sticks).

As this wont heal while I have the band, its got to go. Then I'll have 3 to 6 months on PPI's followed by removal of adhesions and a sleeve.

Finally, will be the hernia repair. For which I need to be super slim for.

They are my main problems but I have other health problems too which all contribute to me being able to get this done on the NHS. For which I'm very grateful but also this needs to be done as things will only get worse.

Thank you for sharing this, can I ask how you knew you had an epi gastric hernia and if you had any pain? I've had a horrible pain in my left ribs for over a year but nothing showed up on my barium swallow! Any way good luck with your op, been years since I had to do mine but it was so hard!! Anyway it's a long journey for you but keep your eyes on the prize and know that you are doing the best thing to be healthy as well as slim! Xx

Hernias are named after the location they appear in, so an epigastric one is above the belly button. I started to notice a lump on the right side of my abdomen. That was a few years ago and now its the size of my outstretched hand (I have big hands too). My intestines and bowel come through the hole when I stand and are worse when I bend.

Yes I do get pain, in the hernia but also from the acid. It comes right up into my sinuses and ears - very painful xx

Probably the same as everyone else, I stretched out my hand to get the size of your hernia and then pulled a face while shouting 'ouchy'!!!!
