Hi guys

Just wondering what people waited from doctors referral to tier 3 until you heard something ?

Referral was sent on Tuesday, I know its only a few days but wonder how long it will be until I get an appointment?

Hate not knowing the process lol..

Thanks

xx

Hi

Dont want to disappoint you as all areas are different... but it took my gp over a week to send the referal. Then got through my next appointment is in 2 weeks with a dietician which then can take up to a year depending on your weight and health. Then i think it can be 18 weeks from seeing a surgeon/consultant but not sure how long it can take between dietician and surgeon/consultant.

Think it can be a long journey I'm afraid. Though others talk about time to prepare mentally for the op and being in the right frame of mind.

Good luck whatever happens xx

between my gp referring me and me seeing someone at teir 3 was about 3 months.

from gp referral to my operation was about 15 months i think

my time frame can be seen in my signature

Hi guys

Do I get a letter or will they send to gp.
Hate waiting without something to look forward to.

The letter came to me

Hi Billie, in my case in Wakefield area, GP referred me start of October. I saw the doctor end of November where he sent me home to wait for the 3 tier weight management where I didn't get a place untill March. I finished it and saw the dr again last month and he was happy with my loss and referred me to Bariatrics. I go to the seminar next week and told it will be about 6 weeks after that when I meet the surgeon and be put on the list. I'm hoping to have my surgery by end Dec. Good luck :)

Hi guys ..... I've been lurking for ages and ages! Finally booked an appointment with the doctor and asked if I would be considered for WLS. He thought I was and sent a letter to the hospital. That was 2 weeks ago and this morning I got a letter for an appointment for The Specialist Weight Management Clinic . Do you think that means one foot on the ladder and I am now on the three tier thingy that I keep reading about???

Sorry if I have hi-jacked someone's thread..... I'm a beginner!

Hi, yes you have to attend weight management , that's the start of the process. You've got it a lot faster than I did and I did 12 weeks then 12 weeks after that I saw the specialist who put me forward to bariatrics to start the appointments with them :)

Hi Leda .... Thanks for responding. My letter for the appointment said I will have to attend an appointment for between 6 - 12 months depending on my BMI which is 44 I think !! So will this be the first step on the third tier? And after the 6 or 12 months where will I stand then??? The first appointment is for an hour so I guess it will be loads of questions and time to bare my soul! I find it pretty frustrating that there doesn't seem to be a set path to take...... And each different area seems to follow different routes. I guess I've just got to go with the flow and just be thankful that I haven't been booted out of the door and something is actually happening!

I think everyone shares the same frustrations Cheshire Cat! It feels like nothing is happening sometimes, having a date to work towards would be so much more helpful!

I have an appointment on Wed with the dietetics dept at my local hospital. I have had no information as to what to expect from this appt which makes it even more nerve wracking!! I asked GP to refer me for surgery and this appt is what I got in return - just hope it's the correct next step and not a waste of time!!

Best of luck! x

Hi Cheshire. I did 6 months on tier 3. They then filled in the paperwork for the hospital and I then recieved my letter from the hospital for the seminar a month or 2 later. In the next 4 months I had my appiintments with the hospital team and then it was op day

Hi Yvonne83 ........ That is exactly the same for me. I went to the docs and asked if he thought I would be eligible and he thought I would be so sent off a letter. A week later I got a call from the docs to say I needed an appointment as a form had to be filled in by the doctor.... The letter wasn't enough! I got the letter to confirm the appointment yesterday...... Which is pretty quick really! I've googled and googled and googled to try and find how it works in my area but can't find much at all. Guess I should be grateful I have an appointment .... Not really sure what is is for though!! I'm in Cheshire. Where are you???

Hi Robina ... That sounds pretty quick! I'm still trying to suss out the forum but I have seen a couple of threads from you somewhere... Not sure where though! What did you have and when and where and How you doing???

I had gastric bypass in january of this year. My gp made the referral in october 2012. I started tier 3 in january 2013, seminar in september 2013 and then my op january 2014

Im almost 8 months out now, im down 133lb, 32 of which were before the op.

I can eat pretty much anything in small portions. Occasionally the pouch says no but no real issues

Any regrets Robina?? It sounds like you have done amazingly well.... And the wait wasn't to bad ?! I'm hoping that I might be lucky. I am type 2 diabetic with polysystics ovaries

Any regrets Robina?? It sounds like you have done amazingly well.... And the wait wasn't to bad ?! I'm hoping that I might be lucky. I am type 2 diabetic with polysystics ovaries .... I have managed to fend off Diabetis for a good ten years but it has got me in the end! And I have been monitored by the docs with my weight on and off for years, so there is a track record that I have always struggled ..... Hopefully that should help! I was going to pay private, but money doesn't come easy..... So after the news a few months back about surgery suitable for diabetics thought I would go for it and see if I get anywhere..... Fingers crossed I am on the first rung of that ladder!

No I dont have any regrets. I knew what I was getting into. I researched the surgery for 7 years while I tried lots of diets, exercise, pills from the doctor, meal replacements, dietitian led meal plans etc

I also have pcos and was pre diabetic

My weights down enough that I can do more with my daughter and can kill it at the gym. Im sore today from lifting weights yesterday. Its a good sore :)

Update. Got an email from the tier 3 company today with 6 questionnaires to fill out. It says it only takes a few weeks to process so should be starting soon :) Yay x
