 so after speaking to Caroline at Derby bariatrics, im still no further in progress. Yesterday she said I could call to find out the results of this multi disciplinary meeting. So today I call and guess what she says ....... were sending a letter to your doctor, and Dr Leeder will send a letter to me. Well what the hell does that mean! :4633::mad:

Maybe im being a cow after a horrendous first week at uni, but im so frustrated. I tried to elaborate on the phone but she wouldn't have any of it. So seeking advice from anyone else on here, if you have has a multi disciplinary meeting, what outcome did you receive. Is these letters a good thing. I know the letter is on its way, but im so impatient!! :sigh: thankyou ever supporting amazing people

108 views and no reply :( im not that bad am I? LOL, well I rung today to try and get some clarification and they basically said no decision was made, and that the notes had been passed to Mr Leeder. Who will then type a letter and send it to me :/ God knows what that means. Urgh im so stressed this is such a big thing, I cant think about uni or study, so stressed :(

THat is shocking why can't things just be straight forward, giving you hope then moving the goal posts which leaves you wondering and putting your life on hold whats the matter with folks, I wonder??? No wonder you can't concentrate. x

Yeah I got told in the afternoon of my Mdt but then everywhere is different I guess, fingers crossed for you x

Oh my gosh! This is torture, I'm already getting anxious about mine on the 10th. If I were you I would go to the gp next day to ask.

Hopefully it won't be bad result. Good luck hun xx

hi becky mine only took a week as I kept pestering them your best bet is to speak to Christine cashmore she is the Bariatric co-ordinator her phone number is 01332 789432
I found her so helpful and she really rushed things along for me
Hope you get sorted soon

Hi Kirsty, iv spoken to Christine, she says the same the letter need signing and sending out. She knows me well as ive been ringing every week, im worried its bad news and they wont tell me. What she did tell me is that the MDT meeting was inconclusive there was no decision made and the whole file has been passed to Mr Leeder. Cannot wait for this letter its unbearable x

So sorry did they say why you did not meet the criteria ? Am seeing dietitian tomorrow will be my second visit surgeon was happy to accept me so hope this new criteria does not affect me can you appeal x

omg im so upset. I told my grandmother who is the closest person to me, who basically said she is happy I don't have the surgery as she is scared. This made me feel even more angry and like crap. Ive spoken for a hour to a actual bariatric commissioner who ha happily told me about the process, and had kind of offered a light at the end of the tunel. She basically said that the GP should apply for prior approval, and put a strong case forward for funding, a panel will then deside whether I get funding or not. Ive read the list of criteria for revision surgery and its a quite grey area, there fore I find it laughable that to quote "you don't fit the criteria". Grrrrr im so angry, ive paid £6000 private for a gastric band, and successfully lost 5 stones over 2 years. Now I don't have restriction and can clinically show this distress with 2 years of fills defills all the time, on top of this my endoscopy revealed a polyp over the gastric band stitch that causes direct pain and bleeding. I would love to have been a fly on the wall in the MDT meeting to see how long or how in detail they have actually discussed my case. They didn't even know my correct weight details to begin with, and my GP's bland letter of "suffers band complications" has not helped. Sorry for the rant, but this is life and death for me, I will either die or live a life not worth living if I continue on this path and its as black and white as that for me. Im crying my heart out sick to death of rejection from the NHS. Ive waited 2 months for a letter simply to state that, with no clarity or explanation at all, I personally think its a disgrace. The only positive I can say is that im very happy the bariatric commissioner has spoken to me, and offered a light at the end of the tunnel so to speak. So I have to find a supportive gp and make another referral. Back to square 1, or should I say square-10 as ive already had a surgery. :(

I am really sorry to hear about what happenned to you, Becky. Please, don't give up. One thing I learned from dealing with NHS is that you have to be assertive and even pushy at times. I suggest you write them (GP and whoever else is in charge now) a letter describing what you are going through and from now on do everything in writing and keep record or every conversation you have with doctors and other people involved in this process.

So sorry to hear this becky you must be devastated, is it because your BMI is to low? Iv seen a few people on hear before in the same situation and 1 lady made herself gain weight so she fit the criteria, a bit drastic but maybe worth a thought if your desperate?

Have you thought about approaching your local MP they have a lot of sway with this sort of stuff and elections are coming.

thanks guys, ive looked at the new guidelines which are specifically set out for revisional bariatric surgery. The bmi doesn't come into it, although mine is no 45 anway, its about thing such as surgical complications and medically evidences signs and syptoms as a direct result of the surgery. Im calling my gp tomorrow and going to ask her to complete this prior approval request, which basically applies straight to the NHS for funding, and skips the hospital doing this. My problems are I lost weight consistently for 2 years and committed to the lifestyle etc etc, loosing 5 stones. When my band went too tight, I went over to the nhs, since that time I can only go to 6mm where as before I was at 7.8mm, as soon as I get near 6 I choke on everything, chronic acid, and sick. as a result ive been yo-yoing fills defills fils defils, I never every get the sensation that I had before. I targeted this issue today with the bariatric nurse who believes that there is no reason why it shouldn't work, and there is no test to prove what im saying. Also I have a polyp developed over the stitch of the band to the stomach, which bleeds and becomes irritated when I go near 6mm. I feel personally that I should have medical grounds to persue funding at least for the removal of the band if nothing else. Uff what does everyone else think? thanks guys x

thankyou :) I feel so reassured coming on here. Catherine at the hospital stated that she didn't know what went of in the meeting, what evidence they had, or how they came to the conclusion that I don't qualify. I believe because im a revision, they aren't sure If I would get funding and because of that doubt they have said no. Things that qualify instantly are band erosion/slip, however my symptoms are not ov that, however they are still medical in my opinion. She also said that if I get funding via prior approval they will go ahead simple as that. So basically that's what im going to do, im due to get a phone call today to speak to my gp about prior approval. Im going to go in with the revision surgery policy, highlight which grounds I feel I should be on, and why. I understand its a touchy subject with the sensation as I could be lying about that, but my medical history shows that for those 2 years I committed easily to that life and consistently had a slow but steady loss. Untill that one fill when all hell broke loose. I really really hope they accept me, I would love to see the prior request document to think of what im going to put first, but cannot find it anywhere online.
