Hello there

I went to see my Dr recently and he has refered me onto tier 3 of weight management. I was hoping to fund myself for surgery but just couldn't get the finance. I recieved a letter from 4 healthy weight and I emailed them. They sent through some forms like medical history etc and I have returned them. What is the next step. I have read so many different things it all differs depending on where you are. Is there anyone here from Maidstone larkfield way on this course? My Bmi is over 40. I am 22 years old and not had a period for 3 years. I have pcos and a under active thyroid.

On this plan will i need to do it for a year? And do they set you a target of his much weight to lose to show your willing to change etc

And I have read also that your gp is the one to make the decision at the end. Is that right for our area. And what is the wait like for surgery once approved

Sorry for all the questions!

Hi.
I was referred in to tier 3 back in August. I started it in September last year. This group ran from beg sept and is finishing on the 13th April.
Each one has a different length. What company provides yours ? Mine is morelife.
They haven't set me a certain amount to lose but generally I think they would like you to lose 10% of your body weight.

After mine finishes they will write to my GP and he will write the referral to the hospital.

Sorry I couldn't help further but I'm not to far along the scale yet xxx

Thank you no that has been really helpful mine is with 4 healthy weight / why weight I think. Patience is hard but judging by all the other threads I need to get used to this waiting game! If only I had £10,000 lying around !

Hi I have no idea about nhs processes but I do live very near you (nr Aylesford.) I had a gastric band in Belgium 8 years ago and due to a massive slip I just had a revision to mini gastric bypass 3 weeks ago. The bypass cost 5k, happy to advise you about my experiences etc if you wanted to. X

I'm in west kent too, but am going to have to go private. Caroline Jess, where did you have your mini bypass done? :)

Hi ya hun,
I too am with 4 healthy weight. As your BMI is under 50 you will have to do the full 12 months of tier 3. I was referred to tier 3 in November 13, got my 1st appointment in January 2014, And a was referred to tier 4 January this year. Once you have completed the full 12 months you are sent a list of hospitals to choose from which can be found on the 4healthy weight website, under downloads and preferred providers. I chose St Richards in Chichester as it has a specialist bariatric unit and some of the best surgeons in the country. Once I chose St Richards I waited until I received a questionnaire, that was sent back in January, I spoke to the hospital yesterday and was advised I wouldn't receive my first appointment which is the MDT assessment until August, and the surgery wouldn't be until another 8 months from that taking me to April 2016. It's a very long process, and you feel like your living in limbo. I would just say expect surgery in 28 months anything sooner will be a bonus! X If you have any questions hun just let me know, I'll do my best to help u x x

I had both my band and mini bypass done with Dr Christian De Bruyne near Brussels. He didn't charge me to remove by band as I am a previous patient, the cost is 6500 euro you get taxis from the airport to the hotel and back again, four nights accommodation for two people, surgery, tests and two nights hospital stay. If you have a European medical card (free) then if you have any complications the hospital bills the nhs as it's in the EU.

Hi, I was referred in October 13 and have been through everything at Guys and St Thomas as I live near Ashford in Kent. I have one more procedure to go, a GDO? (camera down the throat) then I will get a date for surgery. I expect it will be May 15.

It does take a long time, but the wait is worth it. And...... the wait has really helped with getting my head around what is going to happen and I really do feel ready for it.

I will be posting a post sleeve daily diary to update all the pre-opers what to expect as this is the information that I read most often.

Good luck all.
