Mr Shaw Somers, He works all over and has works in Harley Street, I have worked with him in his NHS lists and some private lists. He is very approachable. We have his patients come from all over, kent, london amongst other places to have there procedures in Portsmouth. He was in on my operation nearly a year ago. Good luck and do as much research as possible

Honestly Bec, I think that what you're going to see is that everyone who's had a successful operation thinks their surgeon is the best. I've not yet had my op, but I can tell you how I went about my choice:

  1. Firstly read up on the various operation choices to decide which I wanted
  2. Next looked to see which surgeons in the UK did those operations
  3. Looked up those surgeons to see what their 'interest' in bariatric surgery was e.g. whether they had a specialty in bariatric surgery, were a member of the British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society etc or whether they were simply a general surgeon who happened to do bariatric work
  4. I then drew up a list of questions to ask the surgeon I liked the look of such as:
    - How many of these surgeries have you done?
    - What is your mortality rate?
    - What is the complication rate?
    - What are the most common sorts of complications and how do you solve them?
    - Having looked at my information, which surgery would you recommend for me?
    - Having looked at my information, what sort of success do you think I can achieve?
    - What are my personal risks of surgery?

I fired all these questions (and more!) at my surgeon during the consultation and, to my surprise, was told that he was really happy I did and that hardly anyone does. I was happy with his answers and the fact he didn't sugar coat anything. That, plus his background and experience, persuaded me that he was the man I wanted to trust to go into my innards! :)

I did lots of research and chose professor Amori, he operates at Spire Roding once a month, you don't have to go to Manchester! Look at his website and stats!
