A question of poop for post op'ers

With just a week to go till my op i am wondering how bowel habits will change after surgery.
I know that this pre op diet has played havoc with me its just like being a baby again lol but i wonder how bowel movements are affected post op on the liquid diet and hope some of you are brave enuff to help.:D

Does a liquid diet mean that BM's will be liquid aswell.
Is it controllable or were you "scared to laugh"
Did your guts gurgle like baby elephant.
Same with sloppys is it sloppy in sloppy out or does the body adjust.

LOL Brave question! My first week was a bit dodgy but I think I developed a lactose intolerance which gave me very loose and urgent bowels.

I began drinking lactose free milk and that was sorted. I'm now on a mushy diet, I moved on from puree (basically soup and yoghurt as I hate pureed food) at the end of last week.

I'm a bit constipated now, which is extremely unusual for me....but do know I'm not drinking enough.

So no, to answer your question, it isn't sloppy in, sloppy out: in the first few weeks, its a struggle to drink enough and so your body holds on to the water. I think constipation is more likely the order of the day.
I'm taking some stuff called Benefibre (its tasteless and you can put it in food and drinks) to help and it is helping a bit.

Thanks Charis for being the first Brave soul to answer lol

I will look for benefibre just in case

I got mine from Boots, £9 for a big tub. It'll last ages.

I had bouts of diarrhea for the first 10 days and then everything seemed to go back to normal - now I can go up to 6 times a day! All normal and firm!

hi malazak, its funny but when you have your op thats all the docs talk about;).well i was laying bricks lol could have built my own wall so had to get mads from the doc untill i got help from the family on this site (bless them):bananalove:i was told to try a bread called burgens soya & linseed, works wonders hun.good luck with the op hun xxx

I dont think any one person is the same post op. I have gone every day since the op, everything was as normal even when in was on liquids.

Thanks for all the replies.

Its wierd i honestly thought that liquid in couldnt possibly produce "normal" output i mean u understand the smushies might but how on earth does the human body take clear soups and slimfast shakes and make a log out of it lol

I didn't struggle at first but i have been for a little while now. Am currently taking Movicol x 2 a day and Senna tabs (off the doc) 2 at night time, and still feel like i'm trying to give birth to a baby rhinoceros....

I think i may have to incorporate some benefibre or start on the Burgens bread...

I'd love a good poo!

Hi Julie and everyone, the Burgens bread is one of my main things on the shopping list and always will be... so good for you and great to ease stubborn problems... makes you feel so full up... my diabetic specialist always talks of it as being the best...
Love to all xxx

I find that as long as you drink plenty you will be ok, if you become dehydrated thats when problems with constipation can arise.
I also like to have a supply of glycerin suppositories just to help things along ( sorry if thats too much info xxx

Oh i'm drinking gallons... xx

*I'm not post op but loving this thred...whilst very useful (Re the bread and water) has made me truely laugh out loud!!
