Charis's food diary

Grace

New Member
Since I am struggling to eat and suffering horrible nausea as a result, I'm going to keep a food diary for a little while to help me track that I'm eating the right things.
So today so far I've had:

1/3 weetabix with approx 150 mls milk
small portion vegetable soup enriched with tofu for a protein boost
small portion natural low-fat yoghurt mixed with 1 pureed fresh nectarine
cup of milky coffee

which roughly equates to:
3 protein portions (milk in weetabix and coffee, tofu in soup, yoghurt)
1 vegetable portion (in soup)
1 fruit portion
less than 1 carb portion

so I need to have
3 more proteins
1 more veg
1 more fruit
1+ more carb

and LOADS more fluid!

for tea I had
tiny portion (about 2 desert spoons) mashed potato mixed with cottage cheese, small portion blended cauliflower cheese
cup of Bovril
cup of NAS squash
cup of NAS apple juice mixed with water
small milky coffee
sugar free jelly.

so that's 1 more carb portion (including carb in nectarine?), 1 more veg portion (cauliflower) 2 more protein portions (cheese in cottage cheese and cheese sauce + milk in coffee),i fruit portion (in apple juice)
which is roughly what my dietician recomended. It was hard work getting all that in!
it's all approximate because I don't weigh at the moment, but my portions are no more than about 6-8 desert spoons at most.
and I upped my fluids too!
I'm going to get some SF ice pops tomorrow.

Charis i hate to tell you but i think there are carbs hiding in your nectarine! I went on foodfocus.co.uk and was shocked at how many carbs are in peaches!

Nobody told me i had to look for the sneaky little suckers!

HUH? !!!!!! :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I'm just following my dietician's advice!

She never said fruit = carbs!

But you do need some fruit, don't you? for vitamins, fibre etc?

I thought fruit was OK, but not all fruits are equal... I found out today that bananas are carb monsters  :( I've started snacking on nuts instead as they have more protein.

THanks all. I'll watch out for the hidden monsters!:eek::eek::eek::eek:

27/8/10 food diary

I managed a lie-in this am. I wonder if that's because I managed to eat and drink a bit more yesterday and so Polly was a bit happier?

However a lie-in means less time to eat and drink today!

so - breakfast - small portion (about 5 desert-spoons max) porridge made with milk
sips of apple juice diluted with water about 30/70 (30% apple juice)
cup milky coffee
lunch - small bowl carrot, coriander & tofu soup
more apple juice and water

still to eat:

tea - pureed cauliflower cheese
yoghurt with pureed berries
milky coffee
protein shake (will probably only manage half)

so that's 1 carb portion (porridge)
4+ protein portions with milk in porridge, milk in coffee, cheese in cauliflower cheese, tofu and yoghurt :don't know how much in protein shake but must be approaching 2 with milk, which makes 6 in all)
2 portions fruit _ berries+apple juice
2 veg portions (veg in soup +cauliflower)

so I'm just light one carb portion. Not to bad today then! I just need LOADS more fluids! Bring on the ice-pops! :D

You're doing fab, keep up the good work xx

Saturday 28th August 2010 Day 18 post-op

Had a tough day today eating wise as I've felt nauseous most of the day. I'm also completely cheesed off with pureed food and have decided I'm going to try a little bit of something with a bit more texture. I know I said I wouldn't, but I don't think the pureed diet is helping me beat this nausea.
So today I've had:

*Breakfast: about 1/3 weetabix mixed with lots of milk. (felt incredibly sick when I woke up)
* Lunch: small bowl Baxter's consomme soup, small portion natural low fat yoghurt with desertspoon of pureed berries
* 1/2 cup latte coffee while out
* ice lolly (3gms sugar!)
* 175 mls milk shake made with NAS syrup+ 2tsp Marvel to boost protein
* Dinner: 2 small slices salmon mousse from Sainsburies - scrummy! (smoked salmon + cream cheese - 1st thing I've had to chew! managed well taking TINY bites, but felt VERY full)
* 2 cups apple juice diluted with water
* 1 glass diet coke, (flat)

so that's approx 1 portion carb (weetabix and sugar in ice lolly)
approx 4-5 portions protein (milk, Marvel, fish yoghurt cheese)
2 portions fruit (berries, apple juice)
OOPS no veg!
but better efforts on fluids. :)

I am CRAVING salad! I honestly NEVER thought I would see the day! LOL

and Oh for a bit of melon or some grapes!

I watched my hubby eat a jam and cream scone with complete disinterest! I honestly didn't want it!

Sunday Lunch

I decided to try slightly less pureed food a bit early (even though I said I wouldn't!) as I can't cope with another week of soup! and I have to try to get rid of this nausea too.

So today I have had:

1/2 mushy weetabix with milk for brekky
diluted apple juice

Sunday lunch!: tiny portion of minced roast pork, mashed potato, mushy peas, cauliflower and broccoli+ apple sauce, in gravy!

1 Actimel 0% fat yoghurt drink

It was flipping delicious: I could only manage 1/2 what hubby served up, so 1/4 of one of those 'Chinese soup bowl' dishes. I chewed and chewed and chewed. And so far so good, I feel full but not uncomfortable and really enjoyed it! :)
I am a very happy bunny!

Food seems to be going down well Charis. Keep up the chewing lol xxx

The Rest of Sunday/Monday 30/8/10

Sunday went downhill after lunch.

cup of diuted apple juice
cup of Lady Grey tea (no milk)

I wasn't hungry at all (not unusual) but tried to force myself to eat: about 7.30pm
* pureed cauliflower cheese(which I've had a lot of) suddenly just couldn't stand the stuff, it made me want to throw up!
*NAS Angel Delight - about 6 desert spoon's worth...I DUMPED! Horrible! - I felt dizzy, sick, just managed not to throw up but it was touch and go, very sleepy, almost passed out. And have slept until 1pm today!
Note to self - READ the nutrition panel even when something says low sugar!

MONDAY 30/8/10
Brekky - at 1.30pm! 6 spoons porridge
I will try to get a protein shake in today
more later

tried the protein shake (chocolate mint) and was nearly sick! Yuck!
so I had a milkshake with marvel instead.
Actimel 0% yoghurt drink
rest of Sunday roast: pork (shredded) potato, broccoli, cauliflower, mushy peas and gravy.
2 cups Lady grey tea
1 cup diluted apple juice
1 glass American ginger ale (left to go flat)
4 NS ice pops
so that was:
approx 2 portions carbs- porridge and potato
approx 2+ portions protein (milk+ pork)
I portion veg (in Sunday lunch as such a tiny portion)
1 portion fruit- apple juice

so I was light 3-4 portions protein, 1 of fruit, 1 of veg.

not a great day food wise. I'll do better tomorrow I hope.

Day 21 post-op

Brekky- 1/3 weetabix with milk (still can't manage 1/2 as I feel so nauseous in the morning!)
Lunch- low fat yoghurt with pureed fruit
cup of Bovril
mid-afternoon - small latte coffee
1 Actimel 0% yoghurt drink
Babybel light cheese
Dinner- small portion potato+bolognese sauce (minced beef, tomato, onion, mushroom) mushed and chewed!
small portion custard (made with extra Marvel) and pureed fruit

so that's 2 portions carbs - weetabix, potato, custard
2 fruit (pureed on yoghurt and with custard)
1 veg (in Bolognese sauce)
5 portions protein (milk on cereal, in coffee, cheese, yoghurt+yog drink, mince in bolognese, Marvel in custard)

Day 22 post-op

I woke up not feeling nauseous! Well, almost, anyhow!:p

Started the day, as usual, with
* 1/2 weetabix, but was only able to eat 1/2 of that!
* Cup of Lady Grey tea pre-lunch

Out to lunch!
I ordered
* a jacket potato with tuna....

had to ditch the salad (broke my heart, it looked yummy, but not yet...) scraped a bit out of the potato, and had it mixed with the tuna...YUM! I was a little worried, as the tuna was mixed with mayo, which I doubt was light...but it didn't make me dump, so hurrah! I ate about 1/3 of the tuna and less than half of one potato, and felt VERY full.
Glass of apple juice diluted with water
2 x Milkshake with added Marvel for protein.
Having some home-made chili con carne for dinner.

I'm MUCH happier and less nauseous on the 'mushy' diet.

Day 23 post-op

I'm begining to feel almost human again! Wahoooooo!
and also finding that more 'slid' food (not that solid, I'm still on mushy...is MUCH more filling!

Brekky: 1/2 weetabix (managed it all!) + milk
small glass tomato juice
1/2 cup tea

Lunch: 1/3 pack Asda cornbeef hash (I'm now STUFFED)
100mls diluted apple juice

mid afternoon: milk shake + babybel lite cheese

Supper: 2 tiny slices salmon mousse, mushed up cauliflower cheese.
3 desert-spoons 2% Greek Ntural yogurt + mushed up nectarine.

so: 2 portions carbs (weetabix+ potato in hash)
2 portions fruit - juice+nectarine
1 portion veg (cauliflower)
5+ portions protein (milk, yoghurt, cheese, meat in hash, salmon)

it's geting easier! I can't wait for salad!

7 weeks post-op diet

Right, after my 'disappointing' loss yesterday, I'm going to start my food diary again. The aim is to get in 6 protein portions, 2 carbs, 2 vegetables, 2 fruit and at least 2 litres of fluids -preferably more.

Breakfast - 1/2 weetabix with 100mls 1% fat milk, small glass fruit juice, cup of Lady Grey tea.
Lunch - small bowl chicken and sweetcorn soup, 1 Babybel light cheese.
200mls NAS squash
Snack - 150mls milky coffee, Actimel 0% fat yoghurt drink
Dinner - small portion home-made chicken korma curry, Greek yoghurt + 4 strawberries
Snack - milky coffee.

so 1 portion of carbs in weetabix
5 and 1/2 portions protein in milk in coffee+milk in cereal, cheese+soup, chicken in curry, yoghurt.
1 portion fruit.
1 portion veg (soup + curry)
Need more fruit and veg and more fluids.
