A bit premature as I haven't even been referred as yet but I'm intending to say that one of the valves in my intestine isn't working properly and that I'm having that sorted. I will then say that it was the cause of my weight issues. I have to be careful as of wife of one of my colleagues is a district nurse so I'm hoping this excuse will be ok.

You could just say you are having an operation end of. You dont have to go into the ins and outs of it and the doctors noted will cover the sick leave. Then you aint fibbed and you wont trip your self.
