HiYa
Its quite normal to not go to the loo lol, I Remember not going for a whole week and then it was like every 3 or 4 days, But I used to take senna which worked well for me. They are tablets but they went down ok, or you can crush them to be on the safe side.

It was several days (5 I think) before I moved my bowels post-op. You are right about not needing to go in the forst few days since not much has gone in. Benefiber & fibersure are similar and the dose can be doubled to help get things moving next week if you feel blocked. Senna also comes in sachets that dissolve in water. Here are a couple of threads about constipation if you are concerned:

Walsall Manor patients are forwarned that the first bowel movement will be black and tarry. This is normal and is blood and dye from the procedure. It's a bit like meconium, a baby's first bowel movement.

I take Benefibre - just two teaspoons once a day, which is what the label recommends in the first week or so as they can cause cramps until you get used to them. I stared them within a day or two of getting home and get on with them well as my mail moved again within a week after the passing pf 'black poo'! I have taken them ever since (and they are half price at Tesco just now too!).

As I remeber it the last thing I had to worry about wasn't being constipated, in fact it was the opposite for me, I had very little warning and needed to get to loo asap...........lol.

be careful with lactulose as it is full of sugar I am told

I was constipated for weeks to the point where my back and shoulders started to hurt

I take 2 spoon in the morning and 2 spoons at night of the benifibre and it has helped me

Teen is right Lactulose is a synthetic sugar. I am a bander but have found dulcolax does the job when I have needed to take something.

I've really never had a problem with constipation, though i do drink plenty of water which is supposed to keep your stools soft and flush your intestines and bowl through. :sick0019:

Hi - I was getting on for 2 weeks when I went, and if Im honest - it was horrific! So painful, so bloated and so bleugh...I rang the specialist nurses at the hospital that said I should not take a laxative as it was the other end that was blocked and suggested I try glycerine suppositories...they are approx £3 for 12 and boy oh boy they are fantastic! Popped one up and 15 mins later I was empty...no pain and unbloated! :D Hope this helps...I will rave about this forever! hehe

Ive gone :)

i guess the lactlose worked :)
