Knickers
Sports Bra
[STRIKE]Long nighties[/STRIKE] Pyjama's work better - loose waistbanded ones anyway.
Slippers
Toothbrush
Toothpaste
Shower Gel
[STRIKE]perfume[/STRIKE]
Dry Mouth Spray
iPhone w/Charger
Meds
Dressing Gown
HairBrush
Hair products
socks
sponge
big towel
peppermint tea ( for wind pain )
[STRIKE]water bottle ( easier to drink out of )[/STRIKE] They gave me cups cos they wanted to measure how much to drink
also have to take my cpap
[STRIKE]body cream[/STRIKE]
wet wipes (especially useful, as they wouldn't let me shower, so used these first on the smelly bits and then wiped with a sponge)
[STRIKE]Dry shampoo[/STRIKE]
loose trousers
loose t-shirts
earplugs
[STRIKE]headphones[/STRIKE]
tissues
squash
[STRIKE]laptop[/STRIKE]
tummy pillow (left this in the car)

That's really interesting Yve! Most people have said it is better to have nighties die to the incision sites. Did the bottoms not rub any of them? In what way were they easier?

I wore bottoms with a really loose waist band and they did not rub at all. They were better, purely because it makes it easier to go loo as the drain just sits above the waistband, they can look at/inject into your tummy much easier, and the surgeon took a look twice a day. You can walk to the loo without worrying about what everyone can see! Oh and short sleeves is essential with the drip and so on.

So true! Will have to have another think about it! Are BIG knickers best? And unwired bras?

I wore a sports bra and it was amazing. I needed to keep my boobs off the incision sites so it helped so much. As the band was slightly tight it was actually lifted away from the incisions. The big knickers are the only thing I'm not 100% sure about. I'll never wear them again - they are massive! And they are not as comfy as I thought. I think briefs or shorts may be better. I have four incisions, one an inch under my bra line, 2 more just about 2 to three inches further down, and one right next to the left crease above my hips. The right one is more sore one which had the drain.

If it's any help when I had my bypass in November I went in Salford and was only in one night so slept in theatre gown and next day after a few sips of tea and soup I got dressed and was shipped off to the discharge lounge so didn't use anything I took with me.

With having a latex allergy I was first on the list so didn't even get my iPod out beforehand!

But it was exciting packing up my case in readiness.

Good luck to all you pre-oppers - life is wonderful post op x

I took a dressing gown, nightie, slippers, toiletries and a bath towel along with my kindle.

I only used my dressing gown and slippers when I was walking to the lift for my surgery.

Toiletries were supplied in the room (which included shower gel, soap, shampoo and conditioner) along with a shower cap and a bath towel.

I would advise anyone to take along 100% cotton knickers to wear in the operating theatre. I am a size 22 and the paper pants that they provided wouldn't even go over my thighs let alone my rather ample rump

I would recommend that anyone who is having bariatric surgery ensure that they take a dressing gown as the hospital gowns are a little on the small size and didnt meet at the back.

I have to add that I had my operation at Dolan Park and can only therefore comment as to what was available there.

I love the fact that this hospital offering obesity surgery doesnt have paper knickers or gown to fit a size 22!!

Happy shrinking bypasser!
My hospita was very well prepared for us biggies, I took a lot on Yves list but stayed in hospital grown throughout, It was more than adequate with a huge cross over at the back so nothing hung out. I never wore knickers the whole time I was there!!

Baby wipes and ear plugs are the most essential things particularly if you are a light sleeper.
I was up the first day and had a shower 24 hours after my op, just kept the wounds as dry as possible. Felt much better once I had a shower and hair wash.
