Gastric band gone wrong !

So am coming close to getting my op and there is a programme on tv tomorrow about gastric bands gone wrong. Am starting to get scared and thinking was the gastric band the best thing to have. Has anyone had a band and regretted it if so why. It may be just the nerves with my op coming up

I have heard of things going wrong, but there are always going to be risks with type of surgery. As long as your getting done by a well know company and you do everything they say then that's the best you can do.

It's scary I cried the whole week build up!, one thing I'm so glad I did was a video from me to me like they do on the biggest loser telling myself not to come back to this and how unhappy I was. Works for me! Xxx

My advice would be: Don't watch it. These things are always sensationalised to make the viewer gasp in horror.

Me? Best thing I've ever done. I'm down 15 kgs in 4 months, down from a size 26/28 to a 20, I feel 100% better in myself, I walk easier, I can go up stairs without puffing like a stranded whale, etc.

Even on a night like tonight, where I have had a blockage and feeling quite uncomfortable, I still think this is the bomb.

Yes, things can go wrong. Hey, they can go wrong when you cross the street or when you get out of bed, doesn't mean you're never getting out of bed again!

Embrace the new you-to-be. She can't happen without the op. It's like being pregnant: sometimes, it's a right pain and labour is a really bad way to go about it, but at the end of it, the result is worth it. ;)

Thank Carrie I think I'll give the video a go so I can look back I know this will be the best thing I have ever done but I keep getting scared over every think that could happen I suppose there only one way to know for shore x

I'm scared of needles so they put a cream on my hand to take the sting put of the needle lol that's how much of a wimp I am..lol

Is it hard work Yes is it painful Yes would I go through it all over again HELL YES!

You will be fine, take loads of pics and do the video and keep one pair of trousers/ top to look back on. My thing was before when I lost weight I would keep big cloths just in case but this time as soon as I'm out one size I get rid I'm NEVER going back!, xxxx

Just seen a clip for it. Looks like it's going to be fantastically sensationalised. Can't wait :D

People's lives on it are real, but I would always want to see the uncut version for the real truth, not the jaw dropping telly that these reality tv program's make it out to be. Having said that channel 5's versions don't seem as headline grabbing as channel 4's 'get your bits out on tv' version.

Also if anyone watches it, remember this:

If more operations went wrong than right, they would make a programme called: "When gastric bands go right".

The fact that they don't do that tells you all you need to know on how successful they are as a rule. ;)

You will always find some failures or problems but that happens in all walks of life..
Im 61 and had my band two weeks ago..
Im looking forward NOT back!!
Good luck Hun xxxx

I had my band 4 years ago and mine has gone wrong , im now waiting for bypass instead iv regained all weight back plus some more( also due to weightgain from meds) but as wrong as things have gone I will never regret my band when it worked it was fab I lost over 7 stone and had a baby. there are no guarentees but from someone living it def worth the risks

When you say went wrong, what do you mean, sorry to be nosey if you don't want to go into it I understand xxx

I'm a week and a half post op now! Its been a hard road to get here but by god its worth it! In 5 weeks with the pre op diet included ive shed 26lbs!!!! 26lbs i know i would not have lost with out the band. Only you can know if the decision is right for you but i wouldnt let sensationalised rubbish put you off x x x

My friend came around last night she had the band done 2 and half years ago. she told me not to watch it I don't think I am going to watch it as am gonna get the band done no matter what and there's no point in scarring my self by watching it. It's just I want to know the bad as well as the good.

I think there's very valid points for being aware of what could or couldn't go wrong. I watched all sorts before I had my surgery, and its one of the reasons why I am so careful with how I treat my band.

I was contacted ny c5 to be filmed ... Bout the relationship that had gone wrong after gastric surgery and weight loss. They have in mind what they're looking to sensationalise  I was boring and rejected because my relationship had not gone wrong LOL I almost felt I had to go out and create myself a story

They have even confused this story ... 'When gastric bands go wrong' and as I am watching the programme, they are now featuring a lady with a 'bypass' that's gone wrong

If we all worried about the things that can go wrong in life, we would never get out of bed. Try not to worry, be positive xxx

I had a bypass but why do they focus on going wrong, i mean i know things can, but this guy on atm tut

It's a farsical programme n no offence but the guy who was 42 stone he must have expected excess skin.

And if this girl has a stomach the size of a small finger how on earth has she put on that much weight

Liquidised donuts obvs

Well I ended up watching it and it hasn't really scared me at all if any think I can't wait to get it done it's just opened my eyes more to treat my band carefully :) tbh I thought the show was a joke they said when gastric bands go wrong yet only one women on there had a band so why call it when gastric bands go wrong :S well role on the new meee canny wait :)
