Is 4ml in new band too much?

Hi, I'm hoping someone has had the same problem that I have. I am 6 days post op and for 2 full days, the pain in my left shoulder has been unbearable. I've tried everything to ease the pain and nothing is working. Earlier, I was generally searching the internet for anyone who has experienced the same and came across a young woman who had had 4mls in her band like mine. She was also having horrendous pain and had to have the whole 4mls taken out and 2mls replaced. Having had this she said she felt better.

I just wondered if anyone had a similar experience as I need to speak to my advisor tomorrow.

I'm a week post op and have 3mls in my band.
To start with I had AWFUL shoulder pain, I freaked out and called my provider, who told me it was likely the gas I was pumped with during my op giving me wind pains. So I took windeze religiously, 4 times a day over the following days and it has almost completely eased.

I think 3ml-4ml is pretty standard in a small band actually, but if you're really worried might be worth calling The Hospital Group (I'm assuming that's who you're with if you had Martin Richardson?) and asking.

ummmmm i echo eighteengirl above re the windeze .....not sure there is a standard amount in a band, some places put some in others don't........... i'm 9 weeks post op with a completely empty band............ if your still in pain by morning give your team a ring see if they have any suggestions hunni...... but an sure it is just wind..... and with your tummy restriction its stopping the wind from coming out LOL have you been moving around? someone else once suggested windmilling your arms !!! worth a go possibly ............ x x x

the pain in your shoulder sounds as if if is just the wind pain which is common post surgery for many and is often there for people who have no mls placed into their band just as much as it is for people who have fluid.

Try windeze or Deflatine, moving your arms in a gentle windmill motion, moving around. Also a hot water bottle placed on the area of the pain, so done gently rubbing your back like you'd wind a baby can also help as can gripe water, infacol, peppermint tea or peppermint cordial.

Thanks everyone for the messages, I've tried everything and thought it had gone after using Peppermint cordial but then it's back again. Getting fed up with it now as today is my 7th day.Managed to speak to someone yesterday but couldn't speak to a nurse until 3.30pm today. I'll just perservere x

Bloody painful ... I had it on day 3 or 4, it was like 12 hrs of contractions that started in lower abdomen & went up into left shoulder!!!
I had to walk mine off, bowel movement also helped (soz tmi) xx

Thanks Clare-revised - I've had hardly any sleep as the pain wakes me up. Thankfully, I can turn over in bed a lot better now but I'm still disturbing my husband. Talking about bowels doesn't bother me as I am a Midwife so goes with the job!;)

First couple of weeks you are so acutely aware of every ache, gripe etc....I'm 3months out now & still get trapped wind.
I also remember a lot of peeps suffering at nite, you need to prop yourself right up almost like your in a chair with pillows....once your rested & a little more settled, your less stressed & this also helps xx
