Hi

Just had a consultation with Dr El-Hasani at Princess Royal Hospital and have been put forward for a bypass. He said the next stage is to go to an information forum but I don't have a date as yet. I was just wondering if anyone has been through this surgery at the PR Hospital with Dr El-Hasani and if so can answer a few questions that are brewing in my brain...along with a lot of fear and trepidation.

I'm type II diabetic with insulin resistance and hypothyroid, i've been told that this op can pretty much reverse the diabetes, and some other health concerns, but on the other hand I have read so many horror stories, i.e. the man who is suing charing cross hospital after GI surgery as he now can't eat solid food, is fed through a tube and has to have liquid morphine?!?....I just wondered if anyone has had success and can let me know that I am doing the right thing and that it can make a difference and still have a good quality of life.

I have tried every diet and excercise plan known to man and weight loss meds and meal replacement etc so I am really at the end of the options...

...any help or support would be most appreciated.

Thanks J xx :wave_cry:

I had my bypass in Oct 2010 at Salford in Manchester so not the same hospital but its the best thing Ive even done. No regrets here! There are sometimes complications with these ops but there are with every operation. I was Type 2 Diabetes on Metformin, I had 2 strokes caused by high blood pressure (5 different tablets for that) Since surgery I havnt taken any diabetes meds or BP ones :D I couldnt be more pleased and feel so much better physically and mentally..........good luck hun XX

Thanks to everyone who has posted a comment in relation to my questions, it's great to know that I am not alone in this.

The info has been really helpful, it's good to see people who have had success and are happy after this procedure.

Just had a letter this morning to go to Orpington hospital Dr El-Hasani's general surgery outpatients clinic so not sure what that's for but it seems things are moving anyhow!!

I will check out the posts that have been mentioned and again thanks so much for the support
