Sunderland patients - where are you in the WLS process?

Similar to a thread posted by Linksi to all Walslall Manor patients, I thought it would be good to have a thread which updates where in the WLS process all Sunderland patients are. I think it will be useful for everyone x

Would all SRH patients no matter where in the process you are - newbie, pre-op or post-op please post your appointment timescales as follow:

1) Date referred by GP and what area you come from.
2) Date of seminar.
3) Date of appointment with bariatric nurse/dietician.
4) Dates of any follow up tests - sleep apnea, psych etc.
5) Date of appointment with surgeon.
6) Date put on waiting list
7) Date of surgery.
8) Any hiccups along the way.

I'll get the ball rolling with my journey so far:

September 2010 - Referred by GP in County Durham
5th January 2011 - Seminar
4th May - appointment with nurse/dietician

I look forward to your responses, thanks xxx

Seminar 5th feb 2010
Dietician 5th June 2010
Surgeon 21st sept 2010
Endoscopy &waiting list 2nd nov 2010
Awaiting surgery date for may 2011

What a good idea, I shall be watching with interest.

1) Date referred by GP and what area you come from - Dec 2009 from South Shields
2) Date of seminar - 4th Jan 2010
3) Date of appointment with bariatric nurse/dietician - Aug 2010
4) Dates of any follow up tests - sleep apnea, psych etc. - None already diagnosed with sleep apnoea
5) Date of appointment with surgeon - 10/08/2010
6) Date of Endoscopy & placed on waiting list- 24/03/2011
6) Date of surgery - haven't got a clue when it arrives.
7) Any hiccups along the way - when I saw the surgeon in Aug 2010 I was refused surgery due to previous mental health problems. I then asked my shrink to support my application, which he was happy to do so once that letter was issued to the hospital I was review at another MDT meeting in Jan 2011 and placed back into the process.

Can anybody advise me what happens between endoscopy & surgery? Is it just a case of waiting for a date now?

Thanks

As far as I can tell, you get a date for surgery about 4 weeks before hand and have a pre op assessment a couple of weeks before the op. You also do a pre op diet in the days running up to surgery but I'm sure some who is post op will be along to confirm x

March 2009 referred by gp
June 2009 Seminar
I think i saw the dietitian in oct 2009 then had an appointment for Feb 2010 which was cancelled and changed to May when i saw the surgeon
Endoscopy was around July 2010 and surgery was 13/11/2010.
I had no problems but i only got two weeks notice for my operation xx

Thanks girls - I think this thread is really useful to anyone pre-op wanting to know what the procedure and timescales are like at Sunderland but also for everyone to get to know a little more about each others journeys x

mines to complicated n too long to list lol x

Your story is a bit of an exception Liz but that's part of what would make it really useful for others to see - not necessarily all the dates for previous ops just your latest and maybe some words of wisdom based on all of your experiences x

ok Newcy i dont remember appointment dates ect but here goes if u wanna hear it..........

1st banded march 2005 lost 7st 7llbs

lost restriction, this was a older band 1 of the 1st used at srh i had fill tube problems, it was all removed and replaced in aug 2008, i went on to lose a little more totalling 8 stone loss, Dec 2010 i had upper tummy plastics i was warned that my band may be damaged through this surgery and unfortinaltly mine was, i regained 4st in 12 months, so i requested a bypass and had my band to bypass covertion in nov 2010 and now ive re lost 2 of the 4 st i regained, ive regretted none of my wls ops and im happy with my choice now converting to a bypass x

thats the short version of my journey x

Thanks Liz. I had no idea you'd had so much success with your first band. Such a shame that you then had the problems you did but your bypass is obviously working for you too now. Thanks for sharing - that's really useful info but also great to get an insight from someone who has had two different types of wls x

Awaiting surgery date around end of may 2011

Referred by GP: March 2009

1st appointment to see Mr Small: October 2009 (straight onto waiting list as I had lost 42lbs between being referred and being seen). Also saw dietician then.
Gastroscopy: November 2009
Surgery: March 2010

Dates are as per my signature.

Hoping to have my 2nd appointment - the one with the surgeon - in mid-late May (4.5 - 5 months after consult with nurse/dietician - 23.12.10). Just waiting for the appointment date coming in the post.

Had sleep apnoea consult at D'ton Memorial - 8th April, with test overnight on 16th April - results awaited.

Counselling - to be held 20th May

Will probably need endoscopy and bloods/pre assessment nearer to op date too.

Hopefully, if all goes well I'm estimating that the op will be mid-end November 2011.

2nd app with the dietician was 29th jan 2010

3rd app to meet weight loss target august 2010
