Severe pain yet again

Well had had another bout of severe pain in my upper abdomen which was the worst I've ever had. Worst than post surgery. I phoned my out of hours team's number only to be told as it was a bank holiday there were no doctors to speak to and I should go to A & E.

At A & E they took an x ray, did a heart trace and took bloods. All came back normal and as my pain had gone, they sent me home.

I have no idea what this pain I keep having might be but it's getting worse each time and disappears as mysteriously as it appears. It's not my gall bladder, liver or anything else as my GP has ruled them all out. I had a routine appointment with my team last week but I only saw the dietician as the surgeon was called away for an emergency. I have another appointment at the end of September, but if I get another bout of pain before then, I'm not sure I could cope. I'm just about to email the dietician I saw and ask her if I can see a doctor sooner as I've already missed work from this.

You poor thing, it seems a real mystery. I hope someone can give you the answers soon x

Thanks. X

I've managed to get an appointment with a surgeon for Monday so hopefully I'll get some answers then.

Sending hugs and healing thoughts your way, you poor thing
x

Do you think it could be trapped wind? - I have had it a few times with constipation since the op and it is the most excruciating pain ever and I ended up in A & E on 2 occasions. The pain is similar to when I had gallstones

I get the same thing every now and again and at one point they thought the cancer was spreading into my stomach, or that I had an issue with my pouch exit or maybe even an internal hernia. Several CT scans showed nothing wrong with the plumbing so they put it down to gas pain. And its true if I get into a hot bath the pain is gone almost immediately so my guess would be you're suffering trapped wind honey.

You have my sympathies because it's worse than anything I've experienced and not even my cancer morphine capsules and liquids make any impact on the pain.

Hope you get some answers on Monday, Jaxx ... Seems like it may be trapped wind going on previous comments, but best to check & maybe get some advise on best way to resolve it :wave_cry:

Jaxx, when you say your dr ruled out gallstones does that mean you've had an ultrasound?

Trapped wind is awful too, i ate reheated leftovers too quickly once and i was in agony and wanting to throw up for about 8 hours after, i couldn't drink or anything...

If I'm very quick and take deflatines as soon as the grumbling starts then I can nip it in the bud but once it gets a hold nothing touches it and everything including water comes back up. I'm now vigilant about eating slowly and chew chew chewing and drinking plenty of water and have noticed that I haven't suffered with it for ages now.

I've been in twice since my op with excruciating pain, my surgeon called it 'musculorskeletal' and apparently it can come and go for up to a year after your op. Hope you feel better soon honey xxx

Phatmomma my doc ruled out gallstones as the majority of the pain I'm getting is on my left side not the right which is where the gallbladder is. But I'm now thinking it could be a gallstone (or maybe I'm hoping as it means it's fixable) as the last bout of pain came on after a particularly fatty meal. I had a grilled pork chop with roasted Mediterranean veggies and gravy. I forgot to cut the fat off the pork (I was distracted whilst eating and ate it) and I didn't realise how much fat was in the gravy granules I used to make the gravy. I'm the only one who has gravy so it's just easier to use granules to make a small amount. The pain started to come on around 30 after I finished eating. It started in the middle of my abdomen and spread out to both sides and to my back. It lasted for 17 hours and stayed in the same place. Then suddenly stopped as quickly as it came on.

I've also had residual pain on and off ever since in either side of my abdomen. I really hope the surgeon has an idea what's happening. I can eat ok so I don't think it's anything to do with my pouch or intestines. I will keep you updated what happens tomorrow.

Hope you get an answer and they can stop this for you.
I have similar pains, but not as intense after eating if I dont Chew my food thoroughly enough.
I LOVE pork chops!

hi jaxx, just wishing you well love ,also , im pre op so slightly different but it took months to find that i had multiple gallstones ,as my pain was all in my back ,and top tummy, agony!,,,but doc said theres no set pattern for gallbladder probs ,it took scans and mri scan to see i had loads of stones which were blocking my liver ducts ,,and are coming out with my bypass ,,just hope they sort you soon love ,good luck will be thinking of you xx

Jaxx gallstones do travel outside the gallbladder - I had them in my bile duct as well as in the gb. Pain radiating round to the back sounds like classic gb pain - try and get your gp to send you for a scan. My gb pain started on my left side and they fobbed me off for a v painful year saying it was constipation. In the end I had to have emergency open surgery as it burst and I ended up with pancreatitis then diabetes and I was in hospital for a month when a routine keyhole would have saved all that so make your gp do all the diagnostics to rule it out - sorry don't mean to frighten you but wish I had pushed my gp when the pain started x

My sister was fobbed off for nine years and when they eventually took her gallbladder out (and part of her liver), she had a gallstone the size of a hens egg. She named it after her ex who was a pain for years as well. Lol

Best of luck for tomorrow. Hope they find out what it is and fix it for you quickly. I had a friend who had similar pain and it turned out to be pancreatitis and was really painful. He has to lie down in a fetal position and then it used to suddenly go as fast as it arrived. Hope it turns out to be something simple and they can sort it out for you soon.

(((((hugs)))))

:)Hope you get some answers today Jaxx:)
Let us know how you get on-there's quite a few of us suffering these VERY painful attacksxxx

Well I saw my GP and my surgeon today and the consensus is GALLSTONES! Hallelujah! I've been referred for a scan to confirm their educated guesses but I'm glad they're both thinking along the same lines as I was. Thanks to everyone for your support. X

Well at least they're all on the same page now and will hopefully get it sorted out for you :)
