hi looking for some advice
I am 19months post bypass and I had a case of severe diarrhoea last sunday after 3 bouts I was fine in the afternoon went to work on the Monday thinking it must have been something I ate ....wrong by 10.30 I had to leave had been to loo with explosive diarrhoea at least 3 times barely made it home and spent the rest of day in and out of the toilet have spent the rest of this week the same it seems to be worse in the mornings and tails off in the afternoons I have tried just having fluids but as soon as I eat anything (very light foods ...dry toast, crackers) the following day I have diarrhoea ? it is beginning to tell on me as I have had to take time of work as I feel tired all the time .......has anyone else suffered from this or have any ideas as I don't think its a bug as I haven't been sick only thing is the constant diarrhoea and stomach cramps

I had a similar experience, but mine lasted 5 weeks. I was back and fore the doctors and after several blood tests was diagnosed with IBS. I also had an emergency appt with the bariatric consultant, who was 100% sure it was nothing related to the bypass as I was almost a year post surgery.

Try some anti diaohrrea tablets for a few days. You can buy them for 90p in asda. If they don't work, get to your GP ASAP. Hope you feel better soon, I understand how fatiguing it is xx

hi thanks for the replyies ...I don't think its a bug due to the fact I have had days of completely no food only water and the following day when ive had only light/bland food the diarrhoea is back and I have been keepin an eye on what food ive been eating and its no one thing its with all food .....I did try an Imodium on the 3rd day and I had horrendious pain thought I was giving birth it was that painful .... also doc said it wasn't advisable for me to use those so wont be trying that again ....I have been looking online and I believe im showing symptoms of malabsorption but wont know any more till I check with my provider until then I will just have to plan my day around toilets

I have suffered steatorrhea (malabsorbtion) since day one of my op and the only control I have over it is to cut right back on any and I mean any fat intake.. Over 2g in any meal sets me off and over 4g can but not always set of late dumping.
TMI Coming up
If your diahorrhea is oily, hard to flush, yellowish/greenish then yes you may well be suffering malabsorbtion hun. Xx

hi femfrankie yes diarrhoea is very yellow/orange and there is sometimes a slight oily look about the water that I have to flush twice ...I just had a phone call about my results from Thursday and there is no sign of novavirus which is what they thought I mentioned that I thought I may have symptoms of malabsorption she wasn't sure as its difficult to say for deffinate she has signed me off for the rest of week and I have to monitor what im eating and keep drinking as much fluids as I can and to give my provider a call which I will do later on this morning to see if they can shed any light on it and if im not any better by Wednesday to give her a call back
