What happens when things go wrong...........

image-3414684964.jpg Don't want to frighten you and am doing this as a reminder to myself, but occasionally things go wrong! I have written about my story in gastric bypass diaries so won't bore you but I do find writing about it cathartic . Just wanted to say, even though I have been to hell and back since my 1st op on 28th January 2014 for a gastric bypass followed 2 days later by open surgery for a twisted bowel, and even though the weight is not falling off me as I expected, I now can say, I'm glad I had it done! I now have that control back and food is not controlling me. I now feel like things are going in a positive direction instead of the negative downward spiral I was trapped in before surgery. I now have a chance of being slim by my 50th birthday (2 years time) instead of becoming increasingly immobile and depressed. That old adage "no pain no gain" is so true for me! For some of us weight loss is a never ending battle. I have simply been given a weapon to win this battle and after all I've been through, including a band removal last year, I'm gonna bloody well win this battle! image-594454846.jpg Before and now photos Started at 22 stone and now 18stone 10lbs and a hell of a way to go! So pleased you are on the up now. I have had lots of moments since my op over 21/2 years ago when I thjink my bowel twists. The pain is terrible and leaves me feeling bruised inside for days thse days I live on soft food and dry crackers no bread, pasta or stuff like that. I take buscopan when it starts and for another following four days 2 tablets 4 times a day think it is. Thankfully it was not as severe as your was at the start. PLeased things are getting on track. take it easy and let your body do the talking you just put in what it needs no more no less. xx

So far Chrisa I've had no bowel pain. Lots of funny noises and seem to be able to eat everything although I haven't tried bread yet. Fingers crossed they did a good job putting my bowels back in place and I won't have any further problems! Just wish this weight loss would kick in. Can't wait to be slim like you! Sorry about the bowel pain, I know it's not nice.

How are you now? It looks like you had open surgery instead of keyhole ... am I right?? Hope your feeling good now. x

I had both! Key hole for the gastric bypass and open surgery when it all went wrong and found out my bowel had twisted 2 days later!
7 weeks now and starting to feel much better now thank you. Still have an open wound in my tummy caused by constant vomiting as a result of complications from surgery putting too much pressure on where 2 cuts met.
On the mend. Slow progress though and that's because of the open surgery. Was my worst nightmare bring opened up again!

I can imagine it would be everyones worst nightmare. I am not skinny by the way. I am now an 18/20 after 21/2 yrs but came down fron 32/34. POeople go much further than I have managed. My weight is well dispersed over my body I am a pear shape my weight is carried mostly around thighs bum and hips. I went down from 24st 11lb to 14st 6 now I am just over 15st. It has plateaud right out. I am now worried about putting weight back on there is always something to worry about. xx

At this moment in time I would love to be an 18/20. You look slim to me in the photo Chrisa! But I share your frustrations . Had a gastric band for 2 years and only lost 4 stone and then put it all back on again and more once it was taken out.
If all of this was easy for us we'd never gave needed surgery! I'm struggling at the moment too. Lost 5lbs last Saturday after 2 weeks stalling and seem to be 3lbs heavier this Saturday despite eating practically the same and the same calories. Just doesn't make sense.

Wow girl you are an inspiration :) I do remember reading you diary and the horror story you went thru, not sure if i left a comment or just ran away in horror at the time .................. but want to say well done hunni for making it thru and for being brave enough to speak about it all. I feel its what we need to hear......not just the good but also the bad and the ugly. Everyone needs to know there are pit falls as well as the amazing stories too!! I wish you all the very best with your new life journey..... here's to a fit healthy and happy big 50 .... keep walking that path to full recovery you can and will get there :) huge hugs and thanks again

Wow! They are some wounds.
At least you looking amazing now! You are truly remarkable to have gone through all his xx

I wouldn't say remarkable banded Hun as I really didn't have any choice in the matter! Not going to look good in a bikini this year! If only! Wound opened up 2 weeks after surgery and still healing. Have district nurses in every other day now to pack it with a seaweed dressing and manuka honey. Getting there though!

But you are doing remarkably well in coping. My hats off to you xx and lots of hugs for a speedy recovery xx

Thank you for posting your pics and sharing your story. You look amazing and your battle scar will fade I'm sure, either way you've come through it and I think I would still wear a bikini with pride if I were you! Well done to you Sharie, you've been so courageous with your ordeal and your success so far is fantastic! :)

Well done you and thanks for sharing your story, it good to be reminded that things can go wrong, but your strength and courage is an inspiration to many of us. Im so pleased to hear you are on the mend now, and fingers crossed you go from strength to strength. Dont compare yourself too much to others, remember we all started at different places and our bodies will react differently, plus you've had two lots of surgery which will have a HUGE impact on your body!

Good luck with the rest of your journey x

wound at 11 weeks.jpg

A mess but all healed at 11 weeks! Suggestions for how to make the scars look better welcome.................!!!!

You can get scar reducing tape from Boots. It's something to do with creating the right atmosphere for the reduction of the collagen that produces scarring and lets the skin repair !
