Especially for slow weight loosers!

I'm getting pretty fed up of not loosing weight since having my bypass 9 weeks ago. keep stalling and gaining weight with my periods (fluid retention).keep going 2 weeks with no change. For some, the weight seems to be just dropping off and for others, it's frustrating and depressing when we feel like were doing everything we're told, but the weight doesn't "fall" off.
So I've started this thread to see if there are any common factors amongst those of us for whom weight loss is a never ending battle. Are we eating too much?Too little? Is it age related? Have we had past weight loss ops? Did we have complications? Are we not exercising enough? Feel free to vent your frustrations!

I've only lost 34lb in 3 month, I'd lost 3 1/2 stone on run up to operation, I eat very little but don't exercise at all :-( guess I've probably answered my question there re the exercise :)

How many weeks are you Strawberry Cow? I know it's no consolation but you're not the only one! It's not easy this weight loss business!

I've only lost 3 lb in the last month. Lost very quick the 1st 2 months though. I seem to only be able to loose well at 1000 calories a day or less & its impossible until I get into the green zone.
I've cut out alcohol (apart from last sunday!), increased exercise, cut out tea, increased fluids & it's made no difference really. Still a 3lb loss is better than a gain. Must stay positive!
Had a terrible day today. Tired = hungry for me & I've already had over 1100 cals by 5 today so I'm not allowing myself anything else!

3 weeks post op...................
I'm no expert but I know everyone will tell you it's still very early days. Your body has been through a major shock and takes time to adjust. I was full of fluid for 2 weeks, blew up like a balloon and didn't loose anything the first 2 weeks. Weight loss has been very irregular for me. Lost a lot the next week and then nothing. It's like being on a roller coaster. We're trapped on it and have to just keep going! Good luck. It will happen but not at the rate we would like it to! Sent from my iPad using WLSurgery

I'm 11 days post op grom bypass. I've only lost a pound... I'm not gonna weigh for a fortnight....I got too upset!

I'm not sure what I expected........ A part of me thought I would wake up and be instantly thin. I can't believe how everything is different. My taste buds can't make up their mind about which flavours they now like ....or don't like. If my taste buds like it, my stomach won't ! I don't know whether I'm coming or going.

Don't be too hard on yourself. You're averaging 10lbs a month. That's bloody good in my books! And you had a massive pre-op weight loss. Why do we beat ourselves up even when we're doing well????

Perhaps you need to eat more ? Perhaps 1200 cals especially if you're exercising? I'm no expert but I do think if we eat too few cals our bodies go into starvation mode. Stop being too hard on yourself. I get hungry when I'm tired too but stress and boredom are the worst. Why have you cut out tea? I drink about 4-5 cups a day now. Never did before, used to be diet coke.

Because that is what we are used to........ we beat our selves up for eating too much, for putting weight on , for making us what we were. We fought for our ops and through the pre op diets.......... and now we are beating our selves up because we aren't losing the weight we so desperately want.

We don't need enemies...... we have ourselves !!

I'm obsessed with weighing and I know it's really bad for me as it controls my mood. I think you're right. We should weigh once a fortnight so that tiny fluctuations which happen naturally, don't upset us too much. You're still really early days Slimby. Be patient, it will come off. You might be carrying fluid or have gone into starvation mode from eating too few calories. Your body is still adjusting to a major op!

You are so right. We are our own worst enemies. Normal weight people don't obsess the way we do. I think it's out of desperation. We've fought so desperately for the op, been through so much having it and now we want results instantly. Unfortunately, it just doesn't work like that. We have to just go with the flow but we can't cope with that. This time next year we'll look back and say "what was all that fuss about" but at the moment, it's tough.

It's really hard and I remember crying on the weeks I didn't lose anything. Got so disheartened, but the good thing is youre not alone. Your body has been through a lot, cut yourself some slack. The op WILL work, it just takes a little time, remember the weight didnt go on over night, so won't come off over night either. WLS is nota magic wand, unfortunately, its a tool to help you lose weight and get healthy. Give yourself 6 months and you'll be amazed by your transformation, I bumped into an old friend the other day, who didnt recognise me after my weight loss. It's not always easy and its hard work, but im so pleased i had my surgery and my life, (although far from perfect) is so much better than before.

Gods luck hun, sending you a hug for when the times are hard.

Turning into a Moody mare :-(

I only just noticed your reply. Sorry! Thanks for your comments, maybe I am in starvation mode. There's other issues too tbh. I've had a few bad days & struggling with head hunger, self sabotage etc. i have a lot of extra stress ( have done for well over 6 months now) that really doesn't help!!
My provider suggested swapping the tea / coffee for nas squash to help with constipation (i have herbal & fruity tea instead though cuz i wont consume aspartame) & it has helped a little but it doesn't take away the hunger pangs like a coffee!
I'm getting there tho

That is so true!!!! It is a hard cycle to break, and we do not give ourselves any credit for losing weight. We are the ones doing it, not our surgeons, our doctors, our friends or families and we should be proud of every single ounce and pound we lose.
