Hi All,

I had my op on Monday, came home yesterday so 4 days out. Everything seems to be going well so far but I'm wondering how much fluid to drink - i don't seem to be getting that "full" feeling so I am tentatively sipping throughout the day. I'm guessing once I move onto purees next week i'll start to get that sensation.

I'm also quite gassy which can be a little bit uncomfortable, I have a type of chewable Omeprazole but that does not seem to be assisting much.:p

I'm just looking for some advice of you more experienced post oppers about how you felt during your first couple of weeks.
Thanks All !

I think we are all different, I had no pain at all post op, I did struggle with getting fluids in but tried as best as I could to keep sipping, including a sports bottle on bedside table for when I woke up in the night, I don't remember feeling full but neither did I feel hungry either, just keep doing your best, you will get there, its very early days yet xx

Hi Pokey,

I am two weeks out now and I felt the same as you. I went straight into puree tho and i was scared to eat at first. I still dont know what it feels like to feel full and I am too scared to push it lol. I think you will learn as you go along and everyone is different.

I still cant get the liquid in, I am supposed to be drinking 2litres a day at a minimum. That includes all milk in ready breks, teas, coffees (i have milky to try and get it in) juices etc.

Good Luck and I am sure other more experienced oppers will be along to helpo shortly x

Hello pokeykoala

Glad to see you on here, hows the pain? not too bad I hope, apparently massaging and moving around releases the excess gas, I have had this after previous ops and it really hurt me, even my jaw bones hurt...how weird is that !

Please keep us posted with your progress, its very encouraging x:clap:

At 1st you will feel it difficult to get that much liquid down, you are doing the best thing and that is keeping water with you at all times and sipping away your amount will increase. At 1st it seems al your day is taken up with eating and sipping and sleeping. I felt and looked well from the op its self. Be careful you don't over stretch yourself thought I WAS CLEVER 5 days out reached up for the line to peg one item up boy did I know about it had to go to bed and rest it. Was fine the next day though. You will have very little feeling at the moment because it is still swollen inside. Stick to the amounts they suggest and learn what a portion size is. I am 3 yrs post in August and still have all my food on a tea plate. My alcohol intake is very low. You will get your head around it. Just make sure you are using fresh fruit and veg when you can to get the most nutirents possible. The water keeps the wound clean inside and the protein promotes healing. x

I get a gurgling noise in my chest after drinking - my husband helpfully described it like a sink drain emptying - which amused him.
Maybe I am trying to have too many sips in one go and should slow down?

I can't wait till Sunday when I can try some pureed homemade chicken soup - yum!

I still get the gurgling sink draining sound. My tummy still gurgles loudly as food passes thorugh, be ware once you get back on solid food every morcel needs to be chewed thoroughly you will know if it becomes stuck the pain is really bad. Even today I have had some pain I had pasta last night well it was homemade lasagne I think too much pasta and not chewed well enough ball must have formed and could feel it moving painfully through my bowel not good but the body keep s it going through but the pain is crampy and awful no rest from it til it is out, buscopan is great stuff really helps with spasms of pain. xx

I really wish I could eat rice,pasta,and bread....ahhhh bread! I'd kill for a sandwich :(
I've tryed a handful of times and it just gets stuck, causes horrid pain so I'm afraid I've fit to live with the fact it's gone forever for me.
And tonite Chrisa I've had to have the faithful buscopan(trumping for England and in a bit of pain)I'll live(used to it now)
Hey remember you saying the other month about your teeth breaking..it's happening to me,chipped tooth and teeth aren't feeling right anymore!

I wouldn't expect to feel restriction for the first six weeks - it will take some time for the nerves inside your stomachs to heal. Follow your providers suggestions on quantities for the time being. usually after the first six weeks you will start to feel restriction and people do tend to move to more solid food then as well.

For now, just make sure you're keeping your fluids up.

Pleased its not just me Emma Louise with teeth or intermittent pain spasms after pasta n bread etc. I can eat a small amount but too much and that's it pain. Don't get it quite so often because I steer clear away from things that I think may cause it. Awful bout our teeth though not a lot we can do about it. I only have 18 teeth left, wish they would just take the lot and be done with it but they won't xxx Love the buscopan it is a life saver. Carry it with me in all my bags just in case. xx
