I'm 2weeks and 2 days post bypass and feeling like I've been hit by a train today. It's been a rollercoaster of emotions for 2 weeks and at times I've asked myself 'what the hell have I done!'

The scars are healing and I've had no sickness or complications so I should be happy right?? Except, i'm still in pain and I'm fed up with puree. all the food adverts and cookery programmes on tv do not help!! I went food shopping with hubby yesterday and it was like some form of torture!! Not only was I miserable looking at a load of food I can't eat but after about 10 minutes I ran out of energy and had to force myself round the place.

Sat on the sofa I don't feel too bad but the minute I get up to do anything I feel dizzy and weak.

I've read quite a few posts from people who seem to be pain free and back at work after 2 weeks. I know it's major surgery and it takes time and we're all different but I'm soooo frustrated - I just want a bit of normal!!!

Oh and these bloody stockings are driving me nuts!! It's like I've got a permanent tight elastic band around my ankles!

Sorry, I'm just feeling sorry for myself, tired and emotional :(

Awe bless you, time will soon pass and you will get stronger when you are able to eat more xx

Oh you poor thing! Cant believe it has been 2wks already. Still feeling numb then Suzie. I wander what it is? Im so sorry you are still feeling not well . This is the sort of thing Im dreading. It seems by reading several other threads /diaries that this is the norm after bypass surgery! Its quite scary really but why . Is it hormones ?? Can you not take those stockings off yet? Blimey! Don't worry Suzie its a great place to vent and let off a bit of steam as many are in the same boat. Sorry I cant help you much but sure someone will come over who's much more experienced to this on going issue of yours. X

sending huge hugs sweetheart :) not alot anyone can say except hang in there...... i had a band fitted back in feb and tbh its was week 8 before i started to fell anywhere near normal, yet some banders are back to work and dealing with it in days !! I think you have to be prepared for the long haul hunni especially after such major surgery....... 2 weeks is nothing really in the big scheme of things.... just haul yourself up and accept this time of healing is very much needed........... the weather is shocking out..........put on a few good movies and rest till your body is ready :) the emotional roller coaster will subside, post op blues are to be expected.... i felt sorry for myself and poorly and weak and wondered what the hell i'd done too.... but fast forward 9 months and everything is fantastic :) just hang in there hunni....... the stockings will get easier too as the legs start to slim they will be falling off before long :) x x x x x

hey Susie ,your not moaning, your saying how you feel and we are all to listen your talking to people who should understand where your coming from
im guessing the dizzy spells you talk about maybe due to the small amount your eating not been enough to support you during the day.
puree stage .....well its pants but not to long till you move on to stage 2 soft foods and that will be lush !
I personally only kept the tights on for a few days then they just had to go I couldn't take them any longer!
I wish you better health

Wow I had mine done on the same day as you and I feel OK, I still cannot for the life of me do 2+ litres of fluid and I'd kill for some meat and chips but other than that I don't have any dizziness anymore thank god.

The stockings are killing me too and I absolutely hate clexane but the worst thing is the supplement drinks, they all taste vile.

I'm trying to focus on the weight falling off but I'm fantasising about food quite a bit.

I feel the same as you! But as time goes on the worse i feel! I've a slight infection in 2 of my wounds, i nearly blacked out a few days ago and I've just threw up after eating I'm 3 weeks today since bypass... and to be honest it's just putting me off eating as I'm getting pain all the hospital has said is take paracetamol an hour before u eat :( i really don't want to take MORE meds eugh! I'm so tired the minute i start doing something too. There's noway i could have gone back to work 2 weeks after my bypass though. I guess we all heal differently.

I'm pleased someone else is feeling the same too so i know it's not just me. I'm sure we'll get through it and look back and laugh at ourselves in a few weeks time! Lets try and be positive :) xx

Not that you wish any of it on someone else but it's good to know you're not the only one feeling this way isn't it?

Thanks for the support everyone.

I'm pretty sure I just need more time and I'll be feeling much better, I'm just so damn impatient.

Anyway, today i have decided to focus on the positives so here goes:

1) I have had no complications so far, no infection, no sickness etc

2) I lost 13lb in 2 weeks

3) I am enjoying being off work and losing the work stress and not hearing the alarm clock every day

4) I am getting to watch all my fave programmes on tv

5) I have a super supportive hubby

6) I no longer have a severe chronic pain in my neck (prob because I'm not at work)

7) I was gifted my bypass by the nhs (I am grateful despite the moaning as I know others pay s lot of money)

8) I think I'm losing my sweet tooth because hot chocolate (low cal options) now tastes way too sweet

9) I have started my Christmas shopping - this is something of a miracle for me as I don't normally start until December

10) I have booked flights to go and visit my brother who lives in Anguilla next June and I will enjoy being skinny and wearing a bikini

Lastly, the fact that I can think of 10 great positives means it's not all bad and today must be a great day :)

Good for you! There really are so many positives to yr op, you just need to be patient and give yourself time to heal and for yr body to recover from the massive shock it's had. I'm not a very patient person either, but just had to accept that the recovery takes time. The more calories you can manage the better you will feel energy wise, but it's hard getting enough in at that stage. Keep up the good work and we'll done for finding some positives too x

Hang in there Suzie! I love the postives, just keep them at hand. What seems to be the thing is getting the protein in, how are you managing? xx

I am finding it a bit of a struggle with getting enough protein, simply due to the small amount of food I can actually eat. I'm trying to have lots of fish and tend to blend a laughing cow light in things to bump it up a bit.

Initially I tried drinking milk but it isn't really agreeing with me.

I'm sure as I progress through the stages and am able to eat a bit more it will get easier.

How are you doing doggylover??

Think I spoke too soon, I now have an infection in one of my incision sites and on antibiotics for a week!!! It's pretty blinking sore but hopefully the meds will sort it out - that's if I can actually take them, they're huge!!!

Generally speaking though I'm not feeling to bad, still get dizzy sometimes and feel very tired after doing very little but it's definitely getting better with each day.

Are you managing to eat? Hope the sickness and pain is better for you. It's pretty rotten isn't it? I'm very jealous of those people who just breezed through it!!

You're still healing remember and it takes time. Hang in there, I'm sure it will get better, from what I've read from those who've had a rough time the turning point seems to be around week 6-8.

Glad you're feeling a bit better Suzie hope the infection clears up soon x
