WLS programme - Dr Pepper?

Ok so I'm a bander, but I'm watching a programme about a very big woman (42 stone) who's had a gastric bypass to save her life (she's American, from Texas), but she's just gone to a drive through and bought a large full-fat Dr Pepper. Surely bypassers can't drink that!??

Is she not taking this seriously?

Oh the update is she's now 350 pounds. She's lost 248.

Amazing - she looks a lot better!

If you abuse the bypass enough, you can eat/drink what you like, I guess?! I was told never to have a fizzy again, so I haven't!

I've wondered about fizzy drinks. A colleague at work has had a bypass and she was told she could (I'm shocked by this). But she admitted it hurt!!

I've got a sleeve and was told never to touch a fizzy drink! I can hand on heart say I've not touched one since a week before my pre-op diet. And i won't touch one

I watch these 600lbs save my life programmes and watched one where she was 500lb had a bypass but continued to keep eating drive-threw take aways and fizzy drink. Her annual update was that she was still 450lb and thinks the surgery just didn't work for her. It was heart breaking to watch. Just shows how easy it is to slip back to old habits.

In a nutshell no you can't. I know people who do and they have rarely reached target. I can't as it causes physical pain for me - I have no food issues, but can never have fizzy again. I would assume if it causes some people pain for many it must cause silent damage. Not to mention the fact that full sugar would cause me to dump - I would dump on a glass of apple juice.
