I am having a bypass on 25th March and my consultant told me I would need a couple of weeks off work, it doesnt seem long after having your gut messed about with, just wondered what peoples experience is and how long people needed off.

I had. A mini gastric by pass and had eight weeks off work,I never went back until I was back on solid food, the hospital normally give you a four weeks sick note ,then you can go back to your GP to renew it.

I was the same as curls40 I had 2 months off work and went back once on regular foods to be honest I couldn't have gone back before then, my get up had got up and gone!
everyone is different so recover better but I wouldn't go back before I got all the food phrases(liquids/purees/soft foods out the way plus the tiredness is a killer just kept wanting to sleep
good luck but do speak again with your gp about time off

I was the same no engery , and after lunch needed a nap, remember it's major surgery, you can't see all the work gone on inside you,
