I am 6 weeks post opp just about and my Hopital doesn't start off with liquid its puréed straight away for 4 weeks then 2 weeks of soft foods such as chillies cottage pies etx ( not mashed up) but how much do I eat ? Till I feel fullness or is there a guild like so many ounces of cottage pie etc ? Morning I eat half a weetabix with no problems at all is that too much or normal ? Can any people on this stage or long termers help me on how much and meal ideas many thanks x

I'd start with a ramekin or a few tablespoons. Soft foods just slide through, so it's normal to be able to eat more of these.

When you start eating solid food of different textures, you'll know your limits, as you'll get full quite quickly. Hope this helps :)

Thankyou I mange to eat a whole egg omelette for dinner with very low fat cheese does that sound ok ?

Its hard to compare with what others eat or have eaten as we are all different, even on different days I have different restrictions, just make sure you are eating slowly and chewing it well, the slow eating will give your tummy time to send its "full" signals :)

Hi Andibee,
I am only 2 weeks post op and i have been allowed from day 2 to have half a weetabix, my plan from the hospital says 2-3 tea spoons full, hope that helps :)
Goodluck Danni x

Hasn't your provider given you any guidance? If not I think maybe you should ring them and ask. Good luck.

Yea that basically said eat till u comfortably satisfied but not full , I can eat a whole tin of big chunky soup the veg only and a whole weetabix and tea a full weight watchers mini meal which only works out few tablespoons

Maybe you should ring them anyway Andie. It sounds a lot to me but what do I know whereas it is their job. I am surprised they have not specified re amount.

As long as you / they are monitoring the weight loss, keeping you healthy is # 1 priority.

I had mine on march 20th. Breakfast is a small glass of milk (though I can have most of a weetabix if I feel like it). Lunch is either a small yoghurt or a 20g piece of cheese. Tea is usually so wing around the size of a fish finger. Snacks include a babybel and a Dutch crispbake.

They told me a yogurt and soft cheese should be used as a snack and that we should aim for 200ml of soup or 2 ounces of casserole

It's worth remembering that different surgical teams have different rules. This is because almost every surgeon does a slightly different procedure. For example some prefer fully stapled while others prefer suturing or a combination of both - there are actually 100s of potential variants and the post-op diet varies with each of them and also partly down to the preference of your surgical team.

With that in mind from day three I was taking yoghurt, toast and diluted fruit juice. Weetabix a few days later.

They want me to have about 3oz of food per meal. I can't even get close to it. I've stopped even trying to eat starchy carbs as even half an oz can stop me eating anything else.

Lunch is somewhere I struggle. Today I had milk for breakfast and then nothing at all till 8pm tonight. That is massively extreme though - I'd normally have something at lunch and my tea at 5pm but tonight I got stuck at work and then had to help with the kids - the 6 month old isn't sleeping so it's a bit fraught.

Sorry I didn't mean to hijack your thread! X
