Earlyish menopause

I ladies I was wondering if any of you have begun the menopause within 3-6 months of having bypass..

Especially if any of you are under the age of 48..

The reason I am asking is because I have started mine at 45...

It started within 3 months of being post op and my GP asked me if I could ask on the forum to see if it had happened to anyone else..

It could be just a complete coincidence that mine came at an early age 12 weeks after my op but it would be nice to know if anyone else has had similar experience..

Average age to start the change is around 50-52 so at 45 I'm quite young especially as there are no other women in my family that have had theirs as young as me..

Have 2 older sisters who never got theirs till 50+ years..

Oh and the other thing is has anyone's thyroid levels changed within a year of being post op as my thyroid function is now under active ...

My periods stopped for about 14/16 months afterwards and I had malnutrition for about 1 1/2 years. My periods did restart but not much and the other symptoms have started.

It's a right bloody pain!

I've had an underactive thyroid for 20 years but it's been getting worse in the last year that I'm on increasingly higher and higher doses.

Not sure of the details but loads of research around levels of oestrogen, fat and the effects of weight loss. However, are you sure it's actual menopause and not just a temp blip in cycle? I am old and started bleeding again post op, just had to have all sorts of investigations but all normal...

Have had all the blood tests to make a proper diagnosis of menopause so yep it's defo not just a blip...
Same as my thyroid being underactive ..

2 lots of tests done 2 months apart ..

Think I will have a little Google and see what comes up..

No regrets. Wish I hadn't got so many issues, but hey ho, life goes on. And what would it be like if I hadn't had the surgeries ??

Maybe the menopause thing is coincidence. When I lost my excess with my band my thyroxine dose needed to be reduced, not increased

We are all different with regards to our hormones.. The only reason I was curious was due to my age and that none of my older 4 sisters had theirs until their 50's .. GP said early meno can run in families which is why he asked me to find out when my sisters had theirs... As for my thyroid I am under the low end of the scale for its production but my T4 hormone isn't raised which is a bit odd as it should be .. It's not telling my thyroid to work harder which is a bit confusing .... Just going to have regular bloods done to keep an eye on things ..
