Band v Bypass v Sleeve

Hi all
I got my gastric band 3 years ago and lost nearly 10 stone. In the last year I've had problems with my band and a barium x-ray has shown pouch dilation- I have put on 3-4 stone (scared to weigh myself) and am feeling that my only option is to go for a bypass or sleeve. Can anyone relate to this and offer some wisdom? I'm so disappointed at myself, as soon as I could eat normal food I have overeaten, my problem with food didn't magically disappear! I'm scared of the irreversibility of the op and will it be worth it or will I be able to overeat again in the future? So down about this weight gain- what will I do people??? x

In tbe begining I was up for a band because that was the only thing that I only really heard about mostly through celebrities on the t , but I did some research, came on here heard and read about the sleeve and bypass I decided tbat the sleeve for me wasnt right because it for me wasnt tough enough , only the bypass for me at least gave me the boundaries I needed plus the dumping I felt woyld keep me from going down the wrong path, and so far nearly 9 months on its doing just that and I don't regret my decision not for 1 second

The band is a physical restriction on your stomach not your head. Its a tool that can help. Sometimes this tool stops helping and becomes a hindrance.

I had a band in 2007 and lost 9 stone. It wasn't easy living with it as it used to self tighten on a regular basis, but live with it I did until I got band induced reflux. That I could not live with. I was miserable and gained a lot of weight back rapidly after keeping most of it off for years. Its all there in my diary if you want the detail. So on June 10th my original surgeon in Belgium did me a revision to a mini gastric bypass. MGB. It can be reversed apparently and also there is nothing mini about it. Its a bypass, just done differently to the RNY.

No-one but you can decide whats best for you. This was the best for me, a sleeve was out of the question because of the reflux and I was gaining weight so doing without something was not right either. Do your research, explore all the options and give yourself time to think about what will work best for you. Read the bad and the good so your eyes are open. There is so much valuable info on the site and so many helpful members, quite a few of them will have been in a similar situation to yourself.

Good luck :)

Ps sorry I forgot to welcome you to the site x

Thanks los in it and Weegie. Weegie- can I ask are you a weegie, cos I am and that would be so cool if one of the first people to help me on here was a fellow Weegie!! Thanks so much for your words of wisdom. I am desperate for this operation but scared too, but the bypass info is all really positive compared to others. Los in it- do you ever feel like bingeing or try to? I'm so scared I wont be able to stop myself then die from a ruptured stomach- is this a possibility??

Its my adopted city rather than birthplace. Married in so to speak ;) love the place, the people but hate the weather lol

Re bingeing. i think that would be really difficult as you would feel pain if you ate too much. If you have too much sugar or fat you potentially get dumping syndrome. I have not experienced that yet, the thought of it keeps me off sugar and fatty food. A

Good luck with your decision. X
