drinking and eating

Doctors advise not to drink 30 mins before and after food..... I like to have a glass of water by me while I eat to have the occasional sip. Does anyone drink and eat or follow the strict 30 mins?

I follow the rules in general. Sometimes I do have a couple of sips of something after I have finished because I want to get the food taste out of my mouth. Or if I am out for dinner with other people I might have the occasional sip of wine through dinner.

I follow it without wavering but then again after I eat I have no room for drink anyway. It works for me

i cant lie I still find this a tough one,i do have a few sips to clear my mouth ive taken up having a plain lolly sometimes after a meal to see me thru till I can have a proper drink

At 6 weeks post op we were told by the dietician to start sipping with food and see what our tolerance was, the drinking rules were only for the first few weeks.
This is also documented in our post op eating rule book, this was from Sunderland.

I'm not due to go back now until September. I'll ring tomorrow I think and see what they say. Going away for 2weeks and want to be able to at least sip a little to keep hydrated

As a sleveer, 30 min rule was given to me as a rule for life. Doctor ok'd a sip of wine now and then. I find that 30 minute rule helps control me, and my appetite. I have a latte, and then wait for 30 to have breakfast, by which I realise I am actually no hungry anymore.

I'm 20 months post bypass and still go by the rule of no drinking 30 mins either side of eating, but I am a rule follower as I don't want to ruin anything :(

The only reason for this, I believe, is to ensure that you can eat "enough" at a meal.

Pre-op I'd drink tons during a meal. This probably helped me cut back on the volume of food - God knows how big I'd have been if I'd not been a big diet soda drinker during meals.

Post op, I have only once taken a drink during a meal which I painfully regretted. I've managed to adjust but I miss cleansing my mouth during a meal, as I partly did it so that the next bite of food tasted better.

My wife is 7 years out from hers and she sips during a meal but when I met her 6 years ago, she couldn't so much as sip. I still remember our first date - she could barely eat a thing, couldn't drink at all and was really embarrassed as the waiter was so concerned that the food wasn't good!

I eat what I can then tell them the foods in edible so they refund it!! Only kidding.. But I have been asked!

That is funny about 4 months post op we went out to a posh restaurant, when the waiter took my plate he asked me what was wrong with it, I told him it was fine but I wasn't very hungry, he took our plates away then came back and said, chef has asked me to ask you again whats wrong with it so he can sort it out, would you like something else.

I insisted it was fine I just wasn't in the mood for it, when the bill came they'd taken it off lol :(
