Dizziness / hairloss

Hello Everyone,

I am 27 weeks post op, i am just curious if anyone else is affected by dizziness, i mean literally every single time i stand up i have to stay still for about 30 seconds otherwise i feel like i will fall, ( sometimes i do fall ) Even when i bend to put something in the oven when straightening up again i go dizzy, I was told my water intake needs to be increased which i have increased now but still the dizziness does not go? :(

Also i used to have extremely thick hair & now it's so thin that people are commenting, i know we was told we would have hairloss but i thought by now it would of stopped, at the rate mine is falling out i will be bald soon

I am taking all my vitamins also.

Any advice appreciated :) !! Danni x

Hi YummyMummy. I havent had surgery myself but i have a friend that has and when i asked about hair loss she told me that to slow it down she started taking biotin supplements and now, at 10 months post op the hair she lost is starting to grow back. So hopefully you will notice a change soon. Im like you, i have really thick hair so when i first decided i wanted to have surgery hair loss was one of the first things i asked her about.

Ive not had any dizzy spells but im guessing its not just not drinking enough it could also not eating enough
as for the hairloss mine as definitely been falling out, all around the edges im thinking of putting my hair in plaits and stop worrying about it as that too cant help

I get terrible dizzy spells 10 weeks post op but a lot to do with my BP meds had to reduce then I get dizzy a few times a day now but it's not nice I do drink plenty but still get dizzy also have some hair loss book over all this is a small sacrifice when I think of how much I've already lost and how much I've got to go

Vain x

I had the same dizzy spells that u r describing and was told I have to eat every 3-4hours which has helped.
I an also losing/lost loads of hair. It was really thick and now is so thin. I can't ware it down as I'm just covered in hair, and fall everywhere. I'm starting to get worried.
I had my bypass on 1st June. Not sure how many weeks that is lol

Thanks Victoria will give them a try & good luck with your surgery :) Danni x

Thanks Los in it, i have been doing that myself so my hair is different each time, it never affected me too much until a few friends pointed it out to me :( Danni x

Thanks Vain, am on all kinds of meds for different reasons, will enquire if any of them are making it worser :\ Danni x

Thanks Lozer, i wasn't told to eat every 3-5 hours i was just advised to drink alot more which i do now do, but it don't help, it's a pain when your out shopping and you bend to get something and when you straighten back up you feel like you will fall :( I will try the eating every 3-5 hours, at this point i will try anything haha, Danni x

I am over 1 year post op and still suffer from dizzyness. I am told its due to low blood preasure which i have post op (no blood preassure medication and it used to be perfect pre op).

Ok so this is the only thing I've been worried about! is it true that most people who've had a gastric bypass have had various degrees of hairloss? Does it grow back at all? If you take biotin from onset will that help/stop it coming out?

From what I understand hair loss is part of the Wls route no matter( to a degree) how many lotions and potions you may take its going to happen

Thank you Llora that's one thing they haven't done with me, check my blood pressure, i will ask on my next appointment to be checked :) Danni x

Beep Beep Cat, we are warned about hairloss pre-op we just don't think it will be as bad as it get's haha !! Danni x

Los in it you are correct, but at this point am willing to try anything haha :) Danni x

My hairloss was really bad. And i think hairloss (more or less) is aftermath of any of the surgeries.. It comes with the stress of loosing weight that you put on your body.

The hair is growing back if everything is ok/ normal circumstances.

My hairloss (much more than normal person would loose hair a day) started around 3.5months post surgery and got worse. It was at its worst at around 6 months mark! My hair thined a lot and still couldnt believe how much hair is falling out all the time. But at the same time i started to notice some extra frizz happening i think it was due to new hairs starting to grow back.. And then at around 8.5-9 month post op the hairloss actually stopped. Yes i do have some hair falling out but thats normal and feels like nothing after all those piles of hair i used to get! :) in total i think i must have lost at least 1/3 of my hair.. If not more.. I had receiding hairline forming and the parting in general was getting more see through..

Now i have major issues with all those new short hair now!(its actually a few inches at some places just standing up in all crazy directions
As i have curly hair). Which is annoying but welcome problem.. So i do hope the hair will go back to normal in time.. Or at least better than it is.

I was told there is nothing we can do to avoid this. We just have to make sure we take our supplements priscribed post bypass, eat enough protein and just healthy diet in general plus staying hydrated.

I did all that plus avoided harsh chemicals and heat styling on my hair.. Also used coconut/castor oil (mixture of them most of the time) plus egg protein hair mask once a week (used to do it less often before surgery).

Hi I also have had dizziness since my surgery, my surgeon said it was due to my blood pressure medication. I'm not taking this medication and still sometimes have dizziness I find days that I am more active I am less dizzy

My hair also has been falling out quite a bit but as most People have said on here its just a part of having a bypass guess we just have to ride it out lol :):)

Does hair come back

..?

Ask you GP or dietitian for blood tests to check your iron levels. You could be anemic. I'm 2 years out next month and severely anemic. Taking double iron tablets and I'm still under what is considered 'normal' :/

With hair loss, make sure you take all your vits & minerals. I haven't noticed any hair loss as of yet for me but they should help.
From what I've gathered, hair does grow back but it'll take time as your body adjusts to your new diet and weight.
