Sorry for the second post in here today - can anyone offer any remedies/medication that is suitable to take after a sleeve for constipation?? I desparetly need to go to the bathroom and have just spent 10-15 minutes in the toilets at work trying to go with no luck and a lot of pain...I don't want to take over the counter laxative remedies if it could be potentially not suitable 2 weeks after surgery...any suggestions or help??

Thanks - one of my a&e doctor friends also suggested them but unsure if you can get over the counter from the chemist or need an appointment with the GP...she also suggested some other over the counter stuff which would be helpful so going to see what I can get tonight...

You can get them straight off the shelf in morrisons and sainsburys. I concur, they work very well. I also recommend milk of magnesia for a slower acting solution.

I had a bypass and had a similar issue a couple of weeks post wls I was advised on here and by my doctor to try prune juice or DULCOLAX tablets about £1 in asda for 10 tablets both worked within a couple of days and haven't looked back since only did them for a few times .
I now have more fibre and fruit/veg in my diet so no longer use them
wishing you better

dulcolax is very good, senakot is a little bit stronger, I struggled before the op so its been awful since. I've tried a bit of everything. I using movicol at the moment and hoping that it does the trick. Try to move around as much as you can because it does make a difference - Good luck and keep us posted what works :)

Thanks everyone. I found some sennacot at home yesterday so took some yesterday evening but also managed to go as well and I've been this morning so feeling much better now. I think until I'm back on solids or I can get fibre into my diet I'll be using sennacot on the occasion so I don't get bunged again

Uh oh. Well either the sennacot has kicked in or my body really doesn't agree with the very soft foods I've eaten today as I've spent most of the night in the bathroom at my brothers...I've now got to try and drive the 20 mins back at break need speed so I'm near the bathroom again....urrrgghhhh someone help!! Lol...

I struggle with constipation and I am 4 months post op. I only go once every 5-6 days and get hip and back pain when I get to the 4th day. I suffer from IBS so if I take anything it has pretty horrible effects on me and I can't leave the toilet. Eurgh vicious cycle. I hope you get it sorted x

Vixter, I had initial constipation following my sleeve op, then at week 2 / 3 had the most horrific diarrhoea which lasted around a week. Since then I've had small regular movements, albeit a little dry. (Tmi sorry)

My provider recommended I go to Lactofree milk while I had the diarrhoea. I'm back on normal cows milk now so will never know whether it was the lactofree milk or my body changing that helped the diarrhoea.

Hope it eases for you soon. I can remember only going out directly after an episode as I knew I had a spare hour or so before the next time.

Im 10 months out and still get constipated. I also have ibs and get hip pain when i need to go

I find having a weetabix at night and a big coffee in the morning helps me to go
