Is there anyone on here who goes to the Sheffield support groups?

I am from Sheffield & my surgeon was Mr Ackroyd, but I have never been to the support group. I get all my support on here, lol.

Hi Twinkle,

Thanks for the reply.

I just went to the group session yesterday and was surprised at how quick it seems to be to have the actual op.

The support group sounds like a good idea but it's a 45 minute train journey plus bus or tram to get there for me.

Hi,
I must say that we are extremely lucky to be in our area as we do seem to wait a lot less & jump through fewer hoops to get the op. Some people on here really have to fight tooth & nail to even get funding.

I went from seeing my doctor for a referral to having my op in just a year & that included my weight loss management programme.

I never felt the need for the support group but lots on here do but such a long journey could be a drawback. If you decide against it, you will find as much or little help & advice as you need on here. Good luck either way

I was very surprised with how quick the op could happen.

Up until a year ago I lived in the north east the waiting time was around 18 months.

I definately want the op to happen, my preference is for the bypass as i am a sweet eater.

At Sheffield are you on a 'normal' ward or is there a specialist bariatric ward?

Hi I had mine done in Sheffield I am from Sheffield I haven't been to the support groups has like Twinkle says I have got all the encouragement and support on here and also with my friends and family. It took me a year to start my hospital journey and would never turn back I had Mr Patel and he was really good xxx

I was VERY lucky & got a short notice (6days

) appointment for my op. I had it at Thornbury Private hospital as Sheffield outsource both there & Claremont to get the list down as quickly as possible. I cannot praise them highly enough from the receptionist up to Mr Ackroyd ... everyone was excellent. I had a bypass as portion control was my issue & have lost 5 stone in 15weeks

I had my band fitted at thornbury and removed at northern general by my ackroyd he is great and his team were fantastic
