How much weight did u lose in the first year?

Hi Magicbeans This is an impossible question to gage accurate answers from, as everyone is unique and their weight loss journey is too. A gastric band will give you 50-60 percent of your EXCESS weight as a loss on average. So if you at 60lbs over weight, the realistic target is 30lbs in...

    Diabetes after surgery

Operations can play havoc with blood sugar, it may be your body just having a blip. A friend of mine has had 2 ops in the past 3 months and both times a few weeks after her blood sugars went wobbly. She was told it's something to do with the anaesthetic taking up to six weeks to fully...

    Lap band: Fills?

When they give you a fill, it is with salin fluid that fills little fluid pockets on the inside of the band, this in turn closes the gap a little tighter, to prevent food going thru so fat. Hope this helps :) Getting to the sweet spot of restriction can take a few attempts, it's like fine...

    Two weeks today

Hi there, I would go easy on the exercise, you wont be healed fully inside yet. There is no speed race for this and you should allow your body adequate time to recover. The full effect of anesthetic will still be in your system and you will feel tired more quickly, it can take up to six weeks...

    Surgery in Prague

You will need years of maintainance fills too....;) The saline can evaporate so to speak and your restriction will fade.

    Surgery in Prague

With needing fills for the life time of the band, the fees they charge £125 per fill might soon add up, I had 4 in the first 12 months.

    Low calcium

I asked if I needed to go on to supplements after my band and the answer was, you shouldn't need to, you should get all you need by what you eat. Also if you use skimmed milk and fat free yoghurts, both are very low in fat and calories yet have high calcium levels. There is so much...

Back from Hosp & no fill :(

I wasn't told it was common, I was told it can be a sympton that might mean things are not quite right. Things mentioned to me were acid reflux can be a sign of ulcers from vomitting too much on the band. Might be worth getting them to check, a tight band may also explain no weight loss.

Back from Hosp & no fill :(

Emm is yor band too tight maybe... I found this info..you went thru a bad stage of vomitting if I remember.... Vomiting or Acid Reflux Patients occasionally vomit or feel pain after food intake. This can be caused either by poor eating behaviour ie too large a quantity or not chewing...

    Grrr to NHS

If I had 7ml in my band I would not be able to drink! The sweet spot is so variable for each person, there is no way my surgron would fill that much in one go. LOL. When he put me up to 6.5 I could not swallow the water...

    First fill today...couple questions!

My first fill was done under a fluroscope with a barium swallow, just to make sure all was in the right place. But not all providers do this. Its fairly painless and usually over and done with in ten minutes :)

    Grrr to NHS

Band size is 9ml and last time it was filled it was up to 5.75ml. I still get restriction in part but really have to be ultra mindful of quantity. I rang again today but there is nothing they can do at the moment. Will keep harassing them every few days.

    Grrr to NHS

I have not lost any weight between last dietitian visit and now. My weight if anything has risen by 2 kgs. I told them this on the phone yesterday but it didn't seem to matter. I feel that because I am 2 and a half years out now, that I am being shovelled to the back of the queue. I...
