You won't see it on your own posts, but if you check the very bottom right of my post you should see a 'thanks' button next to edit, quote, multi-quote etc.

Basically if someone likes what you have said they can click the thanks button at the bottom. It then shows on your stats that someone has thanked you. Hope that helps. :)

You need 20 posts to do an avatar but the forum sometimes take a while to catch up with your posts so give it time. Please check out forum technical help for the 'how to....' tutorials :)

It takes time for the site to 'catch' up with your posts - you should be able to do it within an hour.
