Has anyone had to have vitamins/mineral infusions after a bypass?

I have had one iron infusion on 3rd Feb. I had my bypass 1st April 2009. I've been chronically anaemic for months and my ferritin (iron store levels) were very low.

    stitches

They are dissolvable, but I'd go to your GP to have it checked especially as they can become infected.

    Strong smells !

Whenever I eat, I sneeze twice after. And I started to *crave* strong smells and odd things like bleach etc. I am chronically anaemic and have recently had to have an iron infusion. I feel much better now and the cravings have gone away.

    Tummy noises

The rumbling is the distal stomach (the lower, now unused part of the stomach). It still contracts and produces juices & enzymes. It's basically saying 'Hey! I know there's food up there, where's mine? I'm ready and waiting to work!'

How big is your side plate?

I use a standard side plate and ensure the food stays within the rim.

    Horse tablets

You can buy a pill grinder from the chemist. I used one for the first 4 weeks post-op. Or, as Julie says, pestle and mortar!

Birmingham, Heartlands, Midlands....anyone in my area?

The PCT are now forming 'clusters' and the rules are changing. What was Birmingham East & North PCT now comes under Birmingham & Solihull Cluster. These are commissioning clusters. Heartlands are fed into by old South, old BEN and old HoB (Heart of Birmingham), so will be clueless as to what...

    15 months since bypass...should I be worried?

Much like funding is post code lottery, so it seems after care is. I am just a tad over 2.5 years post op and my hospital do not do bloods as a routine follow-up. I have to badger my GP, who, of course hasn't got a bl**dy clue about bariatric surgery and the effects thereof. So after months...

Birmingham, Heartlands, Midlands....anyone in my area?

Your WLS journey starts the minute you think about it. You are not 'jumping on the bandwagon', you are doing the right thing by being in the WLS community. I wish more people would do likewise and really research, learn and think hard about what is really not the quick or magic fix to obesity...

scottiebottie - the BMI threshold is dependent upon which area is funding you. For instance, in the area I live, a BMI of 40+ and co-morbidities will secure funding (well, until the current 'austerity measures' anyway)

    Drinking with food?

phatmomma is spot on. It is a habit I have tried so hard to break and has probably been the biggest culprit in my comparatively slow loss (7.5 stone down, but still at least 2 more to go). Many advocate 'water loading' some 1/2 hour before eating and then drink nothing for an hour after.

    Am I Boring?

This is a classic example of how food and drink dominate our social lives. You are not boring for not wanting to get so full you feel sick or so smashed that you feel likewise and make a potential ar*e of yourself. Is your friend aware of the journey you are on? If so, I would suggest...
