Anyone recommend holiday insurane?

Hi there
as a pre op not sure about the acceptance of bypass for insurance. But we used a company called Atlas Direct and as my daughter got hit by a car in Tenerife on our last holiday they were great, they paid out everything we claimed for quickly and with no questions xx

i'm off to turkey in two weeks and as a bander still felt the need to mention surgery even though it was six months ago and it made no difference to the premiums whatsoever and that is with swinton. julie

I phoned 3 today and they all want xtra because of surgery, most of them want to know about major surgery for up to 2 years. I got free holiday insurance with the holiday but they want £79 xtra for the trip because I've had surgery.

try post office one, i phoned and told them all about my op and don't have to declare the op when i purchase the insurance x x x

I just filled in the post office one and this is the small print for health It seems you would be ok cause you just having check ups now

Post Office® travel insurance contains health restrictions. You must be able to make the following declaration for yourself, anyone travelling with you, a close relative or business associate who the trip will depend on. For annual multi-trip cover, you must be able to agree with this declaration each time you book a trip and at renewal of your policy.
For you (each insured person)

As far as I know the following apply.
  • 1) No insured person is waiting for an operation or post operative check-up, any investigation or results, e.g. scan, X-ray, biopsy, blood test etc. or any other hospital treatment or consultation (other than where you go to hospital for check-ups for a stable condition, at regular intervals which have been arranged beforehand).
  • 2) No insured person has ever received treatment for any of the following:
    • a stroke
    • any form of cancer, leukaemia or tumour
    • a transplant
    • any heart problem
    • dialysis
    • diabetes
  • 3) No insured person has received treatment, other than regular medication (not including supplementary oxygen), in the last 12 months for any blood disorder, breathing or respiratory problem, psychiatric illness or dementia.
  • 4) No insured person has been seen by a specialist in the last three months (other than where you go to hospital for check-ups for a stable condition, at regular intervals which have been arranged beforehand) or been admitted to a hospital overnight.
  • 5) No insured person has been given a terminal prognosis by a registered doctor.
If you (each Insured Person) cannot agree with this declaration when you take out the insurance, or book a trip if this is later, this policy will not cover any claim arising from that condition unless we have agreed in writing to cover it. You must phone the Post Office® Medical Screening Line on 0845 602 5275† quoting Scheme code PTS2. Do this at the time of taking out this insurance or booking the holiday and they will tell you if we can give cover. You may have to pay an extra premium to include cover for certain medical conditions. They will tell you if they need any more information.
If there is a change in your health (after you have taken out this insurance or booked, but before you travel) and you can no longer agree with the declaration, you must contact the Post Office® Medical Screening Line immediately on 0845 602 5275† quoting Scheme code PTS2. They will tell you if the change in your health will affect your insurance cover.
For a close relative or business associate who is not insured but whose health may affect the trip.

If, at the time of taking out this insurance (or booking the trip if this was later) your close relative or business associate had a medical condition for which he or she:
  • was receiving treatment at hospital (other than where you go to hospital for check-ups for a stable condition, at regular intervals which have been arranged beforehand)
  • was waiting for a hospital consultation or treatment (other than where you go to hospital for check-ups for a stable condition, at regular intervals which have been arranged beforehand)
  • had been given a terminal prognosis, or been told that their condition is likely to get worse in the next 12 months;
We will not pay for any claim you (or any insured person) make, that has anything to do with that medical condition of that relative.
† Calls may be monitored and recorded for training purposes.
* The maximum excess you and your family will pay in respect of any one event claimed for is £100.

I've not had Op yet.

I've not been abroad for nearly 2 years. When I do go abroad I always use Sainsburys. Yes they do charge (reasonable) extra because I asked to be covered for my Lupus. They have been the only company that would cover me, fortunatley I've never need to make a claim.

sainsbury's was £74 for 1 three week trip.

The Post office once doesnt look much good as I was treated for and still am technicaly Diabetic.

It's typical insurance mine field, just going to have to pay up and get on with it I guess .............

Have you tried Greenbee?

I just did a rough quote online for myself and it came up as £45. I never done insurance online, I usually ring up as I don't want anything I want to be covered for left out.

I know its a pain paying all that money, but for me it gave me peace of mind. I've travelled to Barbados, New York and Dubai. Never need to claim, though other with me have usually got sick, fortunalty minor things.

Hi, i declared my diabetes on a Sainsburys policy and they charged me an extra £8 a condition (hypertension+ diabetes). Also try moneymarket.com, Columbus insurance.
please post your results

Hi, can anyone recommend a holiday insurance company that won't go mad on premiums just because of having had bypass?

As a travel agent I have to offer travel insurance...we sell 'Mondial' and my customers who have pre-existing conditions have told me they were happy with their top up premium.

~HUGS~

Hi there

The best thing you can do if travelling to Eurpope is apply for your Eurpoean Health Insurance card (EHIC). You can do this online and it is very quick and easy. We received our cards very quickly in the post.

EHIC | eEHIC | E111 | European Health Insurance Card

This card will cover you for treatment whether you have insurance or not.

The'yre trying to sort out the banks and corruption in government they really do need to start looking seriously at the legalised robbers aka insurers as well. It really is criminal what they can get away with.
