Went shopping & a strange invisible thread pulled me into Lakeland. Well it is Halloween. A Savarin baking tin, a mini Victoria sponge cake baking tray & 2 electric plate warmers ended up in my shopping. That Great British Bake Off has a lot to answer for LOL!
Been cooking & baking my heart out much to the delight of my family & friends but honestly never ever tempted to eat any of it.
Even knitting slices of bread & toast for my Knit & Natter group project.
Going to the Bart's Pathology Museum's Vampire event tomorrow & there is digestible blood to drink. Well it will contribute to my daily iron intake LOL.
Lecture being given by medical professionals so should be interesting & fun.

I know the feeling of invisible thread. I go to both extremes ... Bake off/nigella/Australian master chef and then supersize super skinny / biggest loser  Mini cupcakes, sandwich cakes, deserts are what I am always asked to make if we visit anywhere. I am becoming an expert. I eat the odd one, but its a nice way of having my bit of cake, eating it, and then not binging. Win win :)

Digestible blood ... ... Let us know more x

I can't eat them but The Hungry Girl (American TV cookery prog healthy diet recipes) had a lowish cal brownie muffin - my family love them. Just a pack of Betty Crocker devils food cake mix & a can of pumpkin purée. Mix both but do not add anything to it , no eggs, butter or milk etc. it is very stiff but just blend with wooden spoon or spatula & spoon into muffin cases bake for 15 -20 mins at 180 or until skewer comes out of centre clean. Around 180 kcals per cake. Much lower than normal cakes & a nice occasional treat if you can eat it.

Hmm not sure about the blood thing :) i do love baking though i often do cakes and just take them into work for a treat for the team :) if i have one myself it's just very plain no icing or cream or anything xxit's nice to be nice x

Making a munchkin squash with herby ricotta filling. Well it is Halloween. These little squashes are soooo cute. Hope I can eat it if I go very slowly.

How did the evening at barts go what an fasinating event how do you find out about these things.

It was amazing. Very atmospheric all victorian gothic with all the specimens in jars around us. 2 wonderful interesting speakers - first gave a talk on the folkloric legends across cultures around the world - India & China have vampire legends. Also about women vampires. The second talk was by an authority on 20th century film looking at the way the vampire genre has drastically changed to today's very scientific approach, genetic, viral almost CSI way of telling the horror story. In some ways more real to us as more believable than Dracula in his black clock. We debated the trend of 'humanisation' that is capturing the younger market with Twightlight, The Vampire Diaries, Being Human & True Blood.
The digestible blood was made by a food historian using some techniques used for making black pudding & some molecular cooking techniques & it was served in test tubes & tasted quite nice actually.
Now totally absorbed in reading The Vampire Lestat - Anne Rice (interview with a Vampire - which is also amazing - the film is great tool - dreamy Brad Pit & Tom Cruise mmmm).
My friend is the curator of the museum but they have a website.
I just love finding unusual events & find loads of things on the Internet & Le Cool Online magazine is worth subscribing to. I am very lucky in that I live in central London so there is always so much to do.
Have fun x

Well done for baking for Sue Ryder - great organistion. Used my new savarain cake tin for an apple, walnut & cinamon cake. Went down well with extended family & not a crumb left. It smelt lovely but wasn't tempted as frightened it would get stuck.
So far my experiments for Christmas cooking have all been hits so my list is building nicely. Since my op although not hardly eating my cooking has become my new 'pornography' - my guilty pleasure. LOL
